You're not supposed to use mirrors directly... they can't have all the information download.o.o has (like the apache rewrite rules) Cheers, -- Dimstar / Dominique Leuenberger <dimstar@opensuse.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Why then do
Add a trailing slash and they magically do exist. It's Apache rewrite rules.
Apparently I phrased my question badly. It should have been: Why does http://download.opensuse.org/update/ not have a tumbleweed link to click on? I routiunely use a web browser on this system to find out when an updated package is available that one of my non-booted installations is waiting on in order to solve some problem or confirm a announced fix works.

MC ftp cannot chdir to "/ftp://download.opensuse.org". AFAICT mirrorbrain presumes people use only zypper or yast and only in graphical.target, and doesn't like MC users running in multi-user.target fetching individual packages, directory content listings, package timestamps, or new .repo files from it. Thus AFAIK going to individual mirrors is required to get these things without X running. Do we have some other choice? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg. as tumeblweed and factory are the same, the tree is only published a single time and then linked server side... for your purpose, at this moment, the best is to follow the 'factory' link. Will be a fun exercises to change the publishing to use /tumbleweed as the leading name :)
zypper works in text mode only (it doesn't have any relation to graphical.target). and mirrorbrain doesn't know about it. MC can't connect to ftp://download.opensuse.org because there is no FTP interface: there is only http://download.opensuse.org Mirrorbrain is an apache module... apache serves http, not ftp. MC, on the other hand, does not understand http:// so it's simply not the tool to talk to download.o.o. X running or not running is not the criteria.. you want to use an FTP client - in this case, yes, you need to connect to an FTP mirror. You can be classified an advanced user and should thus be able to use the /factory links as well (it IS the same.. really.. there is no difference between Factory and Tumbleweed) -- Dimstar / Dominique Leuenberger <dimstar@opensuse.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

What factory link?: http://fm.no-ip.com/SS/Suse/mirrorFactoryUpdateMissing.jpg
zypper works in text mode only (it doesn't have any relation to graphical.target). and mirrorbrain doesn't know about it.
My point was about lack of decent HTTP access when running without X.
MC can't connect to ftp://download.opensuse.org because there is no FTP interface: there is only http://download.opensuse.org
Hence my going directly to some mirror that does provide FTP.
I don't believe I have any problem with links that actually exist. When I goto ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/update in MC, neither tumbleweed nor factory appear along with the numbered release version directories, same as when I go to http://download.opensuse.org/update or http://download.opensuse.org/update/ in a web browser. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Heh, fair point: as TW is not really supposed to make USE of the update repository (it's a rolling release, updates go into the main tree, it is actually also just abstracted away on the server... the 'real' repository is located at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/Factory:/Update/standard... (which you should find on some mirrors too). But expect this repository to remain empty.. whenever this is NOT empty, it means we're struggling with terrible issues on Tumbleweed and can't publish a new snapshot.
lynx, w3m, links... plenty of web 'browsers' in Terminal mode available.
Yes.. see above. I'll see if we can add this as a soft symlink there instead of a redirect on download.o.o... -- Dimstar / Dominique Leuenberger <dimstar@opensuse.org> -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

On my preferred mirror (fast, close, reliable), /repositories/ does not exist.
That would make it a good yardstick to determine current state, if it could be found with a browser click or three.

You're apparently easier to please than I. I don't find any terminal mode web browser "decent", especially for doing things an OFM specializes in and makes easy.
