[opensuse-factory] firefox 78.0.1 has problems with credentials using Lockwise
hi, today i installed new firefox version 78.0.1 update from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/mozilla:/Factory/openSUSE_Factory to my tumbleweed installation. the first time, i tried to access a web site with login page, i noticed, that the credentials were not pre-filled, even i stored them inside firefox using firefox password manager (firefox lockwise). at the moment, where i clicked inside the username text box, the whole browser window was blocked/frozen. another browser window had no problem, and i could close firefox. this behaviour was reproduceable. after that i tried to open the password manager in firefox settings, and it seems totally empty. it seems, that firefox version 78.0.1 has problems accessing the password database which was created by an older version. downgrading was little bit tricky, because, when i started firefox after downgrade, it told me, to create new profile, because the used profile was already used by a newer firefox version. as i didn't want to loose all my settings/passwords/extensions/... i removed the file compatibility.ini inside my profile directory, hoping, that no incompatibility will occur... does anybody also experienced this strange behaviour? i never ever had such problems when upgrading firefox. -- Best Regards | Freundliche Grüße | Cordialement | Cordiali Saluti | Atenciosamente | Saludos Cordiales *DI Rainer Klier* DevOps, Research & Development -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

You do understand that openSUSE_Factory is not Tumbleweed but is where packages are tested and solved before releasing to Tumbleweed. If you choose to utilize Factory packages, you must be prepared for failures and to provide bug reports or there is little reason to be there. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

yes. that's why i asked, if this is already known, and/or if there is already a bug report for this. otherwise, i would create a bug report. -- Best Regards | Freundliche Grüße | Cordialement | Cordiali Saluti | Atenciosamente | Saludos Cordiales *DI Rainer Klier* DevOps, Research & Development -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
Hi, it's not known to me and I haven't seen that on my system. My primary password manager is another one but my legacy Lockwise data is still there and fully working. Wolfgang Am 06.07.20 um 13:45 schrieb Rainer Klier:

do you use a master password for using lockwise? anyhow, the moment i downgrade to version 77, the problem is gone. there is something in version 78 which has problems when upgrading with an existing profile. i assume, when using version 78 with no profile, letting it create the profile, it will work. i think i will test this. -- Best Regards | Freundliche Grüße | Cordialement | Cordiali Saluti | Atenciosamente | Saludos Cordiales *DI Rainer Klier* DevOps, Research & Development -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

with new profile it works. it also works, when starting firefox with "--safe-mode" if starting without "--safe-mode", i can see the following when starting from commandline: "[GFX1-]: [OPENGL] Failed to init compositor with reason: FEATURE_FAILURE_OPENGL_CREATE_CONTEXT [GFX1-]: Compositors might be mixed (1,2) ###!!! [Child][RunMessage] Error: Channel closing: too late to send/recv, messages will be lost ###!!! [Child][MessageChannel::SendAndWait] Error: Channel error: cannot send/recv" but even, when i manually disable all extensions, it does not work, when starting without "--safe-mode". what else does "--safe-mode" other than disabling ell extensions? there seems to be something in my usual profile which is disabled when starting with "--safe-mode", and which make a problem with version 78. version 77 immidialtelly asks for master password, version 78 freezes. -- Best Regards | Freundliche Grüße | Cordialement | Cordiali Saluti | Atenciosamente | Saludos Cordiales *DI Rainer Klier* DevOps, Research & Development -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

and do you use the package MozillaFirefox-translations-common? i found out that this is, what is causing the problem! as soon, as i uninstall MozillaFirefox-translations-common firefox 78 is working, but of course only in english. which is not a big problem, but anyhow, strange. what i noticed, before i uninstalled MozillaFirefox-translations-common, was, that in "Extension & Themes", where you could manage all the language packs, all language packs other then german were disabled, and could not be enabled any more. even english. maybe in 78 there a few things not translated, and firefox wanted to access the english localization, but english was disabled, so it froze... how can i enable language packs, which are disabled? -- Best Regards | Freundliche Grüße | Cordialement | Cordiali Saluti | Atenciosamente | Saludos Cordiales *DI Rainer Klier* DevOps, Research & Development -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

it became even stranger. after i uninstalled MozillaFirefox-translations-common, and firefox worked again (only in english), i tried to reinstall MozillaFirefox-translations-common, to see, if i can reproduce the problems. but even, after i reinstalled MozillaFirefox-translations-common, all the languages which MozillaFirefox-translations-common includes, do NOT appear in firefox under "themes and extensions". the files/folders of package MozillaFirefox-translations-common, of course are placed in /usr/lib64/firefox/browser/extensions, but nothing appears under "themes and extensions". i remember, that, a long time ago, i disabled all not needed languages, maybe because of that, they all, but german, were disabled. but why couldn't i enable them again? and why are all languages now not appearing any more under "themes and extensions", even after i reinstalled MozillaFirefox-translations-common? i then tried to install german language pack the "non-suse-way" by downloading/installing it from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/deutsch-de-language-pack/?src... and it worked! now under "themes and extensions", i can see "Languages", and there i can see "Deutsch language pack". really strange! -- Best Regards | Freundliche Grüße | Cordialement | Cordiali Saluti | Atenciosamente | Saludos Cordiales *DI Rainer Klier* DevOps, Research & Development -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

this is not really an answer/solution to your question/issue but an additional observation. After upgrading to todays Tumbleweed Snapshot (20200707) my Firefox started to freeze (or at least does not accept any input anymore) after a short time of usage. It works fine in safe mode so I thought it is related to extensions. But disabling them did not solve the issue. After reading your thread here, I realized that safe mode is english only too. So I remove MozillaFirefox- translations-common an now the issue (freezing) is gone. Best regards Matthias Fehring -- Das Gesetz hat zum Schneckengang verdorben, was Adlerflug geworden wäre. Hi, just to streamline a bit because this all is a bit confusing. Has anyone opened a bugreport yet to have one place collecting all information? Just repeating that I have 78.0.1 running in german and Lockwise and a master password without any issues. So whatever causes the issue still needs to be identified. This (or something similar) happened to me today. After updating in the morning with reboot, firefox did work, but sometime just "hang up" when a password needed to be entered or another input box on a website was made active. Closing and restarting the browser did fix it. I'm not sure if saved passwords were available, as I did not try it. Then an hour ago I found that no saved passwords were available anymore. I uninstalled MozillaFirefox-translations-common, but the UI was still german? Now the Settings screen was completely broken (empty, no items). I then reinstalled the translations and now saved passwords seem to be working again, no other changes. Maybe this (uninstalling translations, starting / stopping firefox, reinstalling translations) helps someone else out of this mess ;-) Have fun, seife -- Stefan Seyfried "For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for nature cannot be fooled." -- Richard Feynman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
