[opensuse-factory] [TW 20150327] libunwind-32bit appears missing
Hi there, I just upgraded my TW (20150319) installation to TW (20150327) and faced this: Problem: strace-32bit-4.10-1.1.x86_64 requires libunwind-x86.so.8, but this requirement cannot be provided uninstallable providers: libunwind-1.1-12.1.i586[oss.local] Solution 1: Following actions will be done: install libunwind-1.1-12.1.i586 despite the inferior architecture architecture change of libunwind-1.1-12.1.x86_64 to libunwind-1.1-12.1.i586 architecture change of strace-4.10-1.1.x86_64 to strace-4.10-1.1.i586 install strace-4.10-1.1.i586 despite the inferior architecture Solution 2: do not install strace-32bit-4.10-1.1.x86_64 Solution 3: break strace-32bit-4.10-1.1.x86_64 by ignoring some of its dependencies It appears to me that libunwind-32bit is missing => <https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=924827> Cheers. l8er manfred

Why do we even have a strace-32bit? strace.x86_64 supports tracing both x86_64 and i586 processes. (Similar combinations apply for sparc64/sparcv9 and ppc64/ppc.) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Dunno, it's probably still installed on my systems since quite a while. If you're sure strace-x86_64 alone is enough to trace 32-bit programs, I'm completely fine with that. We just need to change the Obsoletes tags accordingly then. Cheers. l8er manfred

FWIW, I just ran "strace /path/to/some/old/grub-0.97/program --help" and everything worked as expected. This means, we should really Obsolete strace-32bit and get rid of it. Cheers. l8er manfred

This error is new as strace only recently enabled libunwind support (for strace -k). Wither we drop strace-32bit (I don't see a usecase for this, but others might have more insight) or somebody has to create a submit request with a baselibs.conf for libunwind.
