It is recommended to use fcitx5 to replace fcitx4
Hi, I am Poplar. I recommend replacing the fcitx package of the openSUSE ISO file with fcitx5. The development of fcitx(fcitx4) has been discontinued. Replacing the old fcitx version allows new openSUSE users to experience the latest generation of fcitx input method and various improvements immediately after installing the system. Hi, I second. Used to utilise fcitx4 but once tried fcitx5, I found it just has better integration with KDE, without losing old functionality. And it performs well both under X11 and wayland. (I’ve just switched to wayland since last week). Have both fcitx4 and fcitx5 at the same time is confusing enough for users, like I was suspecting fcitx5 is some sort of dev version and preferred to stick with 4 instead. Since fcitx4 ceased development it’s better to migrate to 5 and avoid any further confusion. ________________________________ From: Poplar.at.twilight <poplar.cubic@gmail.com> Sent: Wednesday, July 19, 2023 12:53:03 PM To: factory@lists.opensuse.org <factory@lists.opensuse.org> Subject: It is recommended to use fcitx5 to replace fcitx4 Hi, I am Poplar. There might be applications still using fcitx4. If so these need to be updated to use fcitx5 or removed before fcitx4 can be removed. Often updating the application means only adjusting the build dependencies but somebody has to take care of it. Thanks Michal
Recently for me, there have been a few flatpaks that crash if you're using fcitx5 instead of 4. I believe it's a combo of KDE portal with Qt6 being used inside the flatpak that was causing the issues. This happened for me with more than one app, but the only one I remember specifically was Anki flashcards. I'm all for the upgrade, but just a heads up that it might be something that needs tested beforehand. On Tue, Jul 18, 2023, at 9:53 PM, Poplar.at.twilight wrote:
