[opensuse-factory] Milestone 5, some problems
Hi, I just test installed Milestone 5 and discovered a few problems: - I can not install *.otf fonts in KDE - In Yast and in the KDE system settings double clicks are needed although I declared wanting to open with single click in the KDE system settings. It's ennoying that single click and double click are not consistant through the whole installation - In can not switch at all to the text console with <CTRL><ALT><F1> - I can not install the multimedia packages from packman because of libMagickCore.so.1 is missing Besides the packman problem which is probably linked to the fact that packman will release versions only after the official 11.2 release, should I make bug reports? You are mistaken for systemsettings, for YaST join the party of currently highest-votest bug https://bugzilla.novell.com:443/show_bug.cgi?id=525287 Bye, Steve -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I joined and voted for the bug. But why do you say that I'm mistaken for the KDE system settings? bye Karl -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

It works with single-click here for me. Bye, Steve -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
It works with single-click here for me.
I just wanted to check this again and tried to reboot Milestone 5. I can't... After Grub, I see, for a short moment, messages on the screen and then it goes blank and stays blank. When I push the power-off button of the computer (3secs.) I can see some messages on the screen before it turns off. Failsave mode brings the same result. Bugreport? Just some additional information: I installed MS5. After the installation I found the first problems. Then I booted my normal SuSE version for some work. The next boot to MS5 failed, which means that the first full boot failed. agreed, but one instance and the *only* I find or have noticed.
- In can not switch at all to the text console with <CTRL><ALT><F1>
I don't know why, but I can and have been able to since I first installed Factory, 28 June.
- I can not install the multimedia packages from packman because of libMagickCore.so.1 is missing
Packman will not have repos until 11.2 is shipped/announced.
Besides the packman problem which is probably linked to the fact that packman will release versions only after the official 11.2 release, should I make bug reports?
there is *no* bug as packman does not yet support 11.2/Factory. But vlc is available and allows me to watch/lisen to everything that I have tried ... I still fail to see *anything* that prohibits you from using/running Factory, unless my crystal ball is defective and that *is* a possibility. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I don't understand? I go to the KDE system settings where usually I add fonts. I click the "add font" button and I go to the directory. There all the *.otf fonts are not shown for selection.

I need double clicks in the KDE system settings as well.
- In can not switch at all to the text console with <CTRL><ALT><F1>

But you agree that this should still work?

yes, I agree :-)
But vlc is available and allows me to watch/lisen to everything that I have tried ...
That's a personal choice I want kaffeine to run, and for the moment I can't test it. I'm not complaining about it, just telling I can't.
I still fail to see *anything* that prohibits you from using/running Factory, unless my crystal ball is defective and that *is* a possibility.
And then there's the problem that I mention in :-) : "Re: [opensuse-factory] Milestone 5, some problems, more problems" When I boot the system I have only a black screen and I can't do anything because I can't even switch to the console... I'll try the proposition with init 3 as a boot option in Grub now, and I'll report back here. I don't see an option to *add* fonts ????

No, while i do agree that it should work, it does work here and has.

I see :-) I do this just for testing. I decided that I want to be useful for the 11.2 version in the testing phase. This is why I'll wait for MS6 DVD and I'll make a new install.

In German it's "Schriftarteninstallation". You should be able to find it by typing "fonts" in the searchfield of the KDE system settings.

This is the sentence where I tried to say it :-) "Besides the packman problem which is probably linked to the fact that packman will release versions only after the official 11.2 release, should I make bug reports?" I'm sorry, english is not my first language.

Really? Well something went totally wrong with this install. Unfortunately I can still not boot it to check again... :-) I'm curious if MS6 will solve these problems for me. Hihi, this was funny :-) So I booted in runlevel 3. It worked. Then I started sax2. It worked. I configured, tested the configuration and saved it. Now the fun part. Already while closing sax2 my screen went blank and a boot with the new settings was the same. Everything blank. /var/log/messages is full with this kind of messages: ------------------------------------ Aug 20 23:23:49 linux-13b4 kernel: [ 40.777711] ACPI Error (psparse-0537): Method parse/execution failed [\_GPE._L0E] (Node f6c27f18), AE_NOT_FOUND Aug 20 23:23:49 linux-13b4 kernel: [ 40.777749] ACPI Exception: AE_NOT_FOUND, while evaluating GPE method [_L0E] 20090521 evgpe-568 Aug 20 23:23:49 linux-13b4 kernel: [ 40.777842] ACPI Error (psargs-0359): [\_SB_.PCI0.USB0] Namespace lookup failure, AE_NOT_FOUND ------------------------------------ /var/log/Xorg.0.log ends with this: ------------------------------------- (II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI2 capable (II) AIGLX: Screen 0 is not DRI capable (II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized /usr/lib/dri/swrast_dri.so (II) GLX: Initialized DRISWRAST GL provider for screen 0 (II) XKB: reuse xkmfile /var/lib/xkb/compiled/server-B20D7FC79C7F597315E3E501AEF10E0D866E8E92.xkm (EE) config/hal: couldn't initialise context: unknown error (null) ---------------------------------- Any more information needed?
