[opensuse-factory] Using openSUSE KOTD on openSUSE Leap 42.3
I am quite successfully using the KOTD kernel 4.11.0-rc6-2.g2cea027-default with openSUSE Leap 42.3. So far the only problem is the inability to compile VMware Workstation Pro 12.5.5. Is anybody else doing this?? If so let me know and we can compare notes. Surprisingly the Virtualbox Test Build 5.19 runs perfectly. I have a triple-boot configuration on my SSD. Windows 10 Insider, Windows Server 2016 Standard, and openSUSE Leap 42.3. Later I will upgrade to Tubmbleweed (after creating an image backup of Leap) in place using this method. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Step 1: First of all make a backup of the current Leap repositories by creating a new folder “old” and moving the Leap repos into that folder. You will have to run all the commands as root user su - mkdir /etc/zypp/repos.d/old mv /etc/zypp/repos.d/*.repo /etc/zypp/repos.d/leap Step 2: Add the new Official repositories, Tumbleweed repositories. zypper ar -f -c http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/oss repo-oss zypper ar -f -c http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/non-oss repo-non-oss zypper ar -f -c http://download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/debug repo-debug zypper ar -f -c http://download.opensuse.org/update/tumbleweed/ repo-update Step 3: Check the installed repositories by running the command: zypper lr -u This will list all the available repositories that you have added to your system. Step 4: Refresh the repositories accept the new gpg keys. zypper --gpg-auto-import-keys ref Step 5: Upgrade the system: sudo zypper dup -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I hope everybody is having fun with openSUSE - it's my favorite repo. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

That is not a surprise to me. I maintain VB on TW, which uses a 4.11-rcX kernel. You are seeing the difference between out-of-kernel drivers maintained inside openSUSE, and those maintained outside. The 4.11 API changes are a little tricky, thus I'm not surprised they are not in VMware. If you need help, please let me know.
