[opensuse-factory] new version of gcc not compatible with older scripts?
after some updates to gcc & co, perhaps 10 days ago, i'm getting errors trying to compile programs that used to work fine, like GIMP from git, even nvidia...run files throw errors. in case of nvidia, not using the "-q" option allows me to disregard the compiler warning that i don't have a working gcc, and everything works fine. i haven't been able to figure out yet where & how GIMP checks for a working gcc. i assume similar things happen to other factory users, or is there something screwed up on my end? the error i'm getting is: "configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables" -- but it obviously can, since i've been building kernel modules with it... -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Have a look into the config.log file, it should tell you why the compiler cannot create executables. Richard. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

thank you, i did look into the log, but that didn't help me either. in the meantime my machine died (may it rest in peace), and i had to re-install on a different one. now, for some reason, no gcc errors appear. must have messed up something or other in the old install; no idea how, but that's history now. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Heh, hardware failure is a very good reason for GCC misbehaviour, the best you can get actually ;) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

ah, that never crossed my mind. means it wasn't my fault afer all--perhaps. but i did go a little wild in the end, with additional repos to get this or that package that something wanted. this time i don't need Kernel:/HEAD or X11:/XOrg even; everything runs fine from 11.4 & KDE:/Distro:Factory -- plus games, a home-dir. for the latest amarok, and one or two others. compared with what i used to have it's conservative though. -- phani. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
