[opensuse-factory] New package: NetworkManager-appindicator

Hi All, Enlightenment only supports the new AppIndicator (Also used by unity + kde5) as opposed to the older xembed specification, Enlightenment also currently has no internal network manager which has been the biggest request i've had from users for ages. In the last 6 months app indicator support has been added to nm-applet, which I have then backported to the current release. App Indicator support has two drawbacks (due to limitations making the spec much simpler and more implementable). The first is only one interface can be displayed the second is in the network list there is no indication of whether the wifi network is secured or not. Even with these issues its still far better then nothing and for the common use case of a laptop or desktop with a single wifi connection there are no real issues. Due to these drawbacks and having consulted with the XFCE team and DimStar we have decided that for now the best approach is a separate package, hence this request. Once network manager 1.1.0 lands with the upstream support or if these limitations are overcome (unlikely) we can discuss whether its worth maintaining 2 packages for these drawbacks, especially as AppIndicator becomes more common and xembed less so (The app indicator version still works when run with a xembed systray). The package will be maintained in GNOME:Factory Cheers Simon Lees openSUSE Enlightenment Maintainer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
