[opensuse-factory] konsole tab behaviour
Am I right in thinking that something has changed (to me rather drastically for the worse) in the latest update (konsole-17.04.2-1.2.x86_64, Tumbleweed 20170613)? Previously there was an empty space on the tab bar to the right of the open tabs where a double click would open a new tab - this seems to have gone away. Is there any configuration change that will get the old behaviour back (I can't see one)? -- ============================ Roger Whittaker roger@disruptive.org.uk https://notes.smuvelious.org ============================ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I have always seen an icon on the left to add a tab, and one on the right to delete the current tab. Never an empty space. These need to be enabled in konsole in Settings->Configure Konsole->TabBar In a new KDE environment, they are off by default. -- Roger Oberholtzer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Previously, if, for instance there was only one tab open, it extended only half the width of the window. Double clicking on the part of the tab bar that was not covered by that tab would open a new tab.
These need to be enabled in konsole in Settings->Configure Konsole->TabBar
I've done this now, but it's not as convenient. -- ============================ Roger Whittaker roger@disruptive.org.uk https://notes.smuvelious.org ============================ -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I don't see what your point is. I'm now running Leap 42.2 and myu screen is wide enough )1280px) that even with 5 tabs open there still empty space, and double clicking in the space creates another tab. Oops, there are 6 more! And the tab width shrinks so there's always some blank space. And what is your point exactly? This thread is about Tumbleweed (not Leap 42.2), with the latest Konsole 17.04.2 and Qt 5.9.0. As mentioned there was a change in Qt 5.9.0 (released recently), that makes Konsole's tabs take up all the available space in the tab bar. So, even if your screen is 10000px wide and you only have one or two Konsole tabs open, there won't be any empty space (where you could double-click to open a new tab). You won't see this in 42.2 of course though, which comes with Qt 5.6.1. (as it's caused by a change in Qt 5.9.0) Kind Regards, Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Thank you for the clarification. I recall there was a Qt4 config editor. I used it a few times with some frustration as the multitude of options available were not, as is the case with something like YaST, made available as prompts. I suppose they are documented for developers, but I'm not a developer. I wonder of a similar tool exists for Qt5, and/or there is an option/setting that impacts such matters as discussed above? For example, in my 42.2 version there is a "user defined stylesheet" option that offers no prompt. Googling, github seems to imply that the stylesheet can affect the width of the tabs.. Has anyone investigated this for the version of Konsole of which you speak, of which you use? -- There cannot be a crisis next week. Apparently a workaround would be to enable "Center tabbar tabs" in the breeze widget style settings. Or enable the "add tab"/"delete tab" buttons in Konsole's settings as mentioned by Roger Oberholtzer. Thanks for this.

Oddly enough this makes the first tab right-aligned, with the "clickable area" on the left - a mirror image of the previous behaviour.
