[opensuse-factory] 11.4 bootsplash branding
Hi, speaking of branding, do we really want to have that "your LCD is driven with the wrong settings"-look on the bootsplash? It really scared me the first time I saw it. -- Stefan Seyfried "Dispatch war rocket Ajax to bring back his body!" -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

My pluses to this, too. In December I wrote: [quote] There's been much hassle around sax2 being removed and nothing replacing it. Some have had problems with display. This time the splash screen and later on the desktop wallpaper really make you think that everything has gone wrong. First I thought, OK I'll try to fix that if just the installation goes to the end and the machine boots... Later I found out that it's not broken, it just looks that way. I hope they will be different later on. It made me pause briefly, but the mouse pointer gave it away. Probably not good for the less astute I suppose, but I actually like it. This assumes it's the same as the KDM background and KDE login splash, as I eradicate splashy and bootsplash from all my systems at earliest opportunity after install if I forget to taboo them in package selection. -- "How much better to get wisdom than gold, to choose understanding rather than silver." Sorry Seife and others, I like it and I'm awaiting, after seeing this Celadon artwork in KDE and gfxboot, this going finally in the lighter green (now a dark grey) in bootsplash/initrd.
Hans-Peter PS: maybe this should be shown to a lawyer before the final release? PPS: a sentence like "this artwork can be burned to CD/DVD by our famous wodim" in the release notes could be a nice start of the next thread involving J.S. ;-) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I actually could not care less for artwork, as once I'm logged in my user settings are in charge and I'm never going to see it again. But this just is too similar to a broken LCD to be funny.

In the bugreport I filed (669474) I suggested to just put a label "this is artwork, your monitor is not broken" onto the bootsplash.

No, because wodim cannot burn DVDs. But you should know that now after all those mails. -- Stefan Seyfried "Any ideas, John?" "Well, surrounding them's out." -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

No, because wodim cannot burn DVDs. But you should know that now after all those mails. Wrong, at least on DVD -R media it does. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Funny dialog, gentlemen: Yes, No, Yes, No, Yes, No. Can we document these cases? Or those that don't work? I really feel under-educated here. For me it actuylly works perfectly with all the DVD drives, I recently tried. All equals only one, unfortunatly. :-) cheers, JW- -- o \ Juergen Weigert paint it green! __/ _=======.=======_ <V> | jw@suse.de back to ascii! __/ _---|____________\/ \ | 0911 74053-508 __/ (____/ /\ (/) | _____________________________/ _/ \_ vim:set sw=2 wm=8 SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) SuSE. Still unclear if you're talking about the MS6 bootsplash or the latest stuff. The WIP screenshots I've seen post MS6 were looking very good to me. Especially considering the circumstances - i.e. Jakub Steiner leaving the company and no replacement being hired, plus some big problems with a leading artwork volunteer recently. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
