Hi Chema (Olá!) So you updated with CDs? I was thinking about that too, but then when I saw the disaster that it would be with all these packages being removed with Apt, I got a bit scared of that... Currently, only ACPI is not working here and it used to work fine on 10.0 and 9.3. It is annoying since this is a notebook and it just "dies" when battery goes out (no, I don't keep my eyes on the badly located battery alarm LED). Having no "nongpl" kernel is also a problem, since it means my Atheros card won't work... Be seeing you, -- Jorge Godoy <jgodoy@gmail.com>

Hi Jorge, update from alpha1 to alpha 2 via CDs worked for me (using YaST)

My notebook works with kpowersave. What kind of hardware do you have? ACPI works fine for me, only apic does not work, because of my ati ixp chipset.
Having no "nongpl" kernel is also a problem, since it means my Atheros card won't work...

It's a Toshiba Satellite A70 S249. I can send the full 'lspci -vvv' output if you think it will help...
ACPI works fine for me, only apic does not work, because of my ati ixp chipset.
Same problem with APIC here. But ACPI isn't working. It hangs my machine when I boot and I have to use 'acpi=off' on Grub to be able to go on. If I don't disable it, it hands in a place where a date is shown... Something like 2000508.... for a building version or revision.

Hi Jorge, no thanks, but you should look for "unknown device" enties there.

Try acpi=debug and look at the messages.

There is also the smp-version. But do you really need smp? Are we still talking about your Toshiba notebook? Why does it need smp? Have you tried the nonsmp? -- mdc

I don't think it will make any difference, since I used this with SuSE 9.3, 10.0 and now with the Alpha1 of 10.1. This is the first time I see the problem.

Try acpi=debug and look at the messages.
It hangs. I can just get into Linux with acpi=off. I've tried but nothing relevant showed up...

It has HT, so if I don't use the SMP version I can't benefit from that, right? ;-) I haven't tried the nonsmp. Since 9.3 SuSE installs the SMP version by default without me doing nothing. Be seeing you, -- Jorge Godoy <jgodoy@gmail.com>

Right, but if the smp version does not work well, it may be worth trying the default version. -- mdc

Nice :-) But on my laptop only Alpha2 can suspend to disk/RAM, Alpha1 failed to do so. Also my ATI X600 PCIE card now works with MergedFB (Xinerama still infunctional) so I can use an external CRT as 2nd screen. But TVout is still not working :-( I think I will stay with Alpha2 on my laptop. -- mdc
