I haven't checked since I played with dracut before my summer hols, but I think the answer is the same as last time - dracut is present and can be used to create the initrd, but use of it has not been integrated into the distro/yast. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (11.9°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free DNS hosting, made in Switzerland. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

It's being advertised as the replacement for mkinitrd for quite some time. See: http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Goals_13.1 -- Cheers! Roman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Dracut is included in 13.1 beta 1 and works just fine, however it is not the default initrd generator, that task will probably need to be accomplished for 13.2 or later. -- "Judging by their response, the meanest thing you can do to people on the Internet is to give them really good software for free". - Anil Dash -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Looking at the missing feature set, i'd guess it will be "or later" :-) kdump is completely missing for example. -- Stefan Seyfried "If your lighter runs out of fluid or flint and stops making fire, and you can't be bothered to figure out about lighter fluid or flint, that is not Zippo's fault." -- bkw -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I think that the upstream still discuss the Kexec/Kdump with Secure boot. This THU at Linux Plumbers Conference, http://www.linuxplumbersconf.org/2013/ocw/sessions/1095 >>> Discuss how to make kexec/kdump work with secureboot regards, Jeffrey

I don't have secure boot (lucky me and my old hardware :-) but still no kdump with dracut. So it's quite clear that SLES12 will not be able to use dracut in its current form => there will be a maintained mkinitrd version which is good enough for me.

From openfate https://features.opensuse.org/310491 ( Add dracut to openSUSE ), Frederic @comment#14 (2011-12-15 14:27) list the following missing features in dracut :
dsdt support (skeleton in place) blogd cifs rtc / zoneinfo EC2 (but it is just a workaround) kdump mtab "migration" "supported" option for kernel module netconsole May be this still true for 12.x and even 13.1 beta if no one update or enhance ? So, your old machine can not use kdump under Dracut. Then this is not related to Kexec/Kdump work with UEFI(secure boot) topic anymore. thanks, Jeffrey

Yes, it is obsolete.. I dont know why it is on the list. Also last time I checked the "DSDT override" did not work, not because of userspace but the kernel. kexec / kdump works just fine with UEFI secure boot. I've got it working and had no issues with it operating properly. The "issue" is that some people want to restrict kexec / kdump when secure boot is enabled, but that's a totally different topic :)

Nope, there is some work in progress by Thomas on implementing the missing features in dracut (unfortunately, the kdump stuff we are using isn't shipping with dracut modules, unlike the kdump (different :( implementation in Fedora.). -- Frederic Crozat <fcrozat@suse.com> SUSE -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Looks like dracut for 13.2 - 13.3. -- Cheers! Roman -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
