[opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed 20171231, latex and pdflatex broken, can't find file loadhyph-af.tex
Hello and happy new year! After installing LaTeX (zypper in texlive-latex), neither latex nor pdflatex work for me. They abort with the following lines: kpathsea: Running mktexfmt latex.fmt mktexfmt [ERROR]: -user mode but path setup is -sys type, bailing out. I can't find the format file `latex.fmt'! similarly, for pdflatex: kpathsea: Running mktexfmt pdflatex.fmt mktexfmt [ERROR]: -user mode but path setup is -sys type, bailing out. I can't find the format file `pdflatex.fmt'! If I try to run "fmtutil --byfmt latex" as root, I get the following output ending with an unrecoverable error: fmtutil [WARNING]: hidden sys mode found, switching to sys mode. fmtutil: fmtutil is using the following fmtutil.cnf files (in precedence order): fmtutil: /etc/texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnf fmtutil: /usr/share/texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnf fmtutil: fmtutil is using the following fmtutil.cnf file for writing changes: fmtutil: /etc/texmf/web2c/fmtutil.cnf fmtutil [INFO]: writing formats under /var/lib/texmf/web2c fmtutil [INFO]: --- remaking latex with pdftex Use of uninitialized value $ENV{"batchmode"} in string eq at /usr/bin/fmtutil line 652. fmtutil: running `pdftex -ini -jobname=latex -progname=latex -translate- file=cp227.tcx *latex.ini' ... I can't find file `loadhyph-af.tex'. <to be read again> \relax l.185 \repeat I don't know the TeX universe well enough to find a solution to this issue. Any ideas? Best regards, Joachim
I found a solution (or work-around???): zypper in texlive-hyphen-afrikaans texlive-hyphen-armenian texlive-hyphen- belarusian texlive-hyphen-bulgarian texlive-hyphen-chinese texlive-hyphen- churchslavonic texlive-hyphen-coptic texlive-hyphen-esperanto texlive-hyphen- ethiopic texlive-hyphen-farsi texlive-hyphen-georgian texlive-hyphen-indic texlive-hyphen-indonesian texlive-hyphen-interlingua texlive-hyphen-mongolian texlive-hyphen-russian texlive-hyphen-sanskrit texlive-hyphen-serbian texlive- hyphen-thai texlive-hyphen-turkmen texlive-hyphen-ukrainian texconfig rehash fmtutil --byfmt latex fmtutil --byfmt pdflatex Is this a matter of missing dependencies??? Or an issue in the TeXlive configuration??? Regards, Joachim
