[opensuse-factory] starting with full HD video
Hello, I just installed 11.4RC1 with the net cd, it works well. However I couldn't have the install in the full HD 1920x1080 as most new mo,itors uses this size, it's a problem. Of course, after the start the openSUSE *is* full screen, but neither the install nor the boot time (it was the same for 11.3) I *have* the option available from the "f2" option at the first boot menu of the install cd, but it don't seems to work. I don't find bugzilla entry on the subject, I can create one if necessary jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xgxog7_clip-l-ombre-et-la-lumiere-3-bad-pig... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGgv_ZFtV14 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Depend of the video card used, and how it report it's own resolution. For example I've an ati radeon hd57xxx which is able to goes to 1680x1050 but doesn't report it at boot time. (nor with fglrx nor with free radeon) On another pc a nvidia quadro is able to start console in 1680x1050 ... To see what your hardware offer you can use vga=ask at the boot line and check what is proposed ... -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch openSUSE Member & Ambassador GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Since we use framebuffer during installation, i.e. fbdev X driver, it depends on your Video card's BIOS which resolutions are supported. Apparently your video card's BIOS does not support 1920x1080. Switching to native driver already during installation would make already the installation on a bunch of machines *impossible*. Temporarily using installations with broken native drivers via failsafe boot option (switching to vesa/fbdev driver) wouldn't work either. Investigating and fixing bugs in native drivers also couldn't be done. I know other distributors use the native driver already during installation. I don't know how they adress issues in native drivers ...

it's better to have one, to give answer to other people. But to disturb as little as possible I assigned the bug to me and closed it immediately as wontfix :-) https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=671528 just for info, using vga=ask gives me 0x34b, c and d modes, that are 1920x1080. 11.4 acknowledge these modes as soon as the kernel loads (11.3 don't) just in case I didn't correctly explain: the problem is not really (for me) having full hd video on boot, but having full screen, the black frame is ugly. thanks jdd -- http://www.dodin.net http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xgxog7_clip-l-ombre-et-la-lumiere-3-bad-pig... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGgv_ZFtV14 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
