[opensuse-factory] Firefox stops responding
Could someone please verify this behaviour by Firefox? Situation: Tumbleweed is fully up-to-date (as of few minutes ago); using Firefox v58.0.1 and kernel 4.15.2-1 (but this is immaterial). When I go to the URL- download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/oss/suse/ and select any one of the following directories i586, i686, noarch, or x86_64 Firefox reads in a screen full of data and then "freezes" -- ie, becomes unresponsive -- and has to be restarted. However, FF does not "freeze" if I select '../non-oss/...' (and then select, eg, x86_64 etc). FF does not misbehave in Leap 42.3 (which is also using kernel 4.15.2-1 on my system). Any ideas why this should (only) occur in those '../repo/oss/...' directories ? When I go to the URL-
download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/oss/suse/
and select any one of the following directories
i586, i686, noarch, or x86_64 All work fine for me with v58.01.
Firefox reads in a screen full of data and then "freezes" -- ie, becomes unresponsive -- and has to be restarted.

Thank you, and thanks also to Axel, for responding. Problem solved a short time ago :-). The problem was caused by an Addon: All Downloader Professional (ADP). Removed it and problem vanished. In Firefox version 52.x I have an Addon called DownThemAll! (DTA!) which I use to download files but in FF v58.x it is unusable. I replaced it with ADP under the impression that it replaced DTA! (but never used ADP in FF 58.x). I have now found that DownThemAll! seems to have been replaced by the Addon called Multithreaded Download Manger which works OK as I just tried it a few minutes ago and it doesn't cause FF to freeze. Thanks for the warning Basil, I wouldn't be able to live without DownThemAll, maybe it'll work again by Leap:15.0. Dave P -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Dave. I cannot check now but DTA! should still work in Leap 15.0 at the moment because FF in 15.0 is still version 52.x. Yes, at the moment. Please note that Firefox 60esr is planned to be released 2018-05-09. So the plan really is to go for that one since FF52 maintenance is supposed to end in August 2018. That means that with Leap 15 I expect to only support WebExtensions in Firefox. There is not much we can do about it I think. (I don't know the plans for SLE12 and how far SUSE can pick up some maintenance for FF52 beyond August 2018 though.) Thank you, Wolfgang, for the above info. Nice to be forewarned :-). The direction FF is moving nobody will be able to do anything except accept what FF provides. Personally, I am getting a bit weary/wary of FF and have just come across in Yast (list of files) a browser called VIVALDI which I am going to be trying out tomorrow. TOR is good but, unfortunately, just a tad slow for my liking :-). Yes, losing DownloadThemAll is a pain, caused by switching-off the XUL interface to FF. That required some new version, including NoScript (which is in between useable again. The first 10.x releases were a pain). FF/Mozilla proposed a download manager, which was not the best choice IMHO. In between I use https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/download-flash-and-video/?src=... which works well, although it has not the same functions as DownloadThemAll Best, Axel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

You should be able to find it using Addons>Get Addons but in any case the URL is: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/multithreaded-download-manage... But keep in mind that it is only usable/installable in FF v57 and above.

I could do that..considering something doesn't take much effort :-). BC -- Always be nice to people on your way up -- you'll see the same people on your way down. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Well, apparently since it is marked "experimental" it won't show up in an Addon search even if you type in the exact name of the extension. Well, I don't know what you are doing but I can find it by simply typing in the single word "multithreaded" and...Voila!...there it is :-) . BTW, this using FF v52.6 in Leap 15.0.
