[opensuse-factory] Cinnamon to be submitted to Factory
Dear all, I've spoken with Jigish Gohil[1] and we're clear to move in with Cinnamon. He's busy during this days, so I'm taking the lead with Cinnamon. A few things people will need to know about Cinnamon: * Cinnamon is a replacement for gnome-shell and requires GNOME3 to be installed; * Cinnamon will be introduced for openSUSE 12.1 and onwards, I won't deploy on previous platforms (if anyone wants to jump in for it, all help is appreciated); * Cinnamon currently is composed of 5 packages, more will be added in the future (most likely cosmetic packages); - muffin - cinnamon's window manager - cinnamon - cinnamon desktop shell - cinnamon-extensions - extension bundle for cinnamon - cinnamon-extension-weather - weather applet extension - cinnamon-settings - GUI configuration tool for cinnamon * Cinnamon requires no hacks (only one patch was applied to correct a path in a session file for GDM); * Development Project is: GNOME:Cinnamon (thanks to Vincent and GNOME Team people); * All the dependencies are already in openSUSE:Factory provided by GNOME Project. I've written this 'article' about Cinnamon and openSUSE (some might have seen it in the planet): http://www.marques.so/2012/01/linux-mints-cinnamon-1-2-deployed-for-opensuse... The GNOME:Cinnamon project is currently rebuilding and there's a cinnamon.ymp installer also. So, will this remain a user supported add on/extra like KDE3? or will it morph into an official package come 12.2? C. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

The main objective is for it to come on 12.2, but there's a few things to polish first. NM

Sounds good, if/when you want it to be added to Tumbleweed, please be sure to let me know. thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
Greg, It would rock to have it also available on Tumbleweed, I was waiting to have the submissions accepted on oS:Factory before I could ping you... Yeah I know Tumbleweed's basic rule: "Must be in Factory first" (not ipsis verbis, I don't recall the original form). I'll let you know Greg, it does build properly for Tumble :) NM 2012/1/25 Greg KH <gregkh@suse.de>:
