[opensuse-factory] patterns-base-x11 requires wacom (via xorg-x11-driver-input)
Xorg works just fine on a desktop that will never need wacom, (synaptics, joystick, etc?) in xorg-x11-driver-input. libinput* evdev, keyboard and/or mouse seem to be more than enough. # zypper -v dup ... Problem: patterns-base-x11-20171206-lp150.6.1.x86_64 requires xorg-x11-driver-input, but this requirement cannot be provided uninstallable providers: xorg-x11-driver-input-7.6_1-lp150.1.6.noarch[OSS] Solution 1: deinstallation of patterns-base-x11-20171206-lp150.2.2.x86_64 Solution 2: keep obsolete patterns-base-x11-20171206-lp150.2.2.x86_64 Solution 3: remove lock to allow installation of xf86-input-wacom-0.34.2-lp150.1.10.x86_64[OSS] Solution 4: break patterns-base-x11-20171206-lp150.6.1.x86_64 by ignoring some of its dependencies Choose from above solutions by number or skip, retry or cancel [1/2/3/4/s/r/c] (c): Need wacom really be part of any base pattern for a desktop, especially when solver.onllyRequires = true? -- "Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. You probably do not need the joystick input driver for X11. It does not seem to do anything useful anyway. If libinput took over synaptics touchpads the synaptics driver may be obsolete by now. However, wacom input devices do not work with libinput so far so if you happen to have one you will not get usable graphical desktop without the driver. It is quite possible to use a graphical desktop without any pointer input but that does not apply to any of the desktops you can select in the installer. In fact it probably does not apply to any desktop you can select through patterns and you have to craft your own for that to work out. So a X11 pattern should include the driver. Would it be possible to install drivers based on actual hardware detected? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

But that makes migration of systems from one machine to another harder. It is what one expects from Windows, but not from openSUSE: the system detects as it starts the current hardware and autoconfigures. On Windows one gets a session of problems, having to search for drivers and reboot multiple times. Hugh. We would then need a tool that senses the current hardware and proposes a list of packages to install or remove. -- Cheers/Saludos Carlos E. R.
