[opensuse-factory] [Leap 42.3] Request to upgrade smartmontools to get (some) support for new NVME drives
Hi there, I just realized that the new system I'm building (current technology for everything) fails to monitor the health data (aka S.M.A.R.T.) of the new NVME disk. The most current version of smartmontools adds _experimental_ support for such disks, at least. I have built a copy from Base:System in my home project for all distributions I'm still using: 13.1, 13.2, 42.1, 42.2, and 42.3. As a result, the build went without any hickups and now I can get data from the disk's health status. It would be incredible if this could be added to Leap 42.3 before it goes live. What can I do to get this done? TIA, cheers. l8er manfred

FWIW, this is the disk I tested: Samsung SSD 960 PRO 512GB

FWIW2, I have now created sr#510286 for this, hoping it'll get accepted ;) Cheers. l8er manfred

Hmm, too bad: State of request 510286 was changed by lnussel: review -> declined Comment: too late for that Question might be allowed: why is it too late for it? Expected release date for 42.3 is 11 days ahead, time enough I'd say for such a leaf package... Especially as it has been tested in TW since quite some time now. Cheers. l8er manfred

Or just send it to openSUSE:Leap:42.3:Update then. The new smartmontools won't be needed during installation, or will it? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I'd also like to see smartmontools in Leap which support NVMe as I always have to use a custom package just to check the health of my NVMe SSD. Leap 42.3 is almost released. So only fixing of severe installation bugs and no new features there. Creating a fate against Leap 42.4 and/or complaining to the package maintainer might help. good idea, done. sr#510383

Correct. It's just useful to get some information from your new (just a year old, approximately) storage drive... Cheers. l8er manfred

It is used (yast storage -HEALTH disk- ) too bad we miss the timeframe to update it. Perhaps your proposed maintenance update can work afterall. -- Bruno Friedmann Ioda-Net Sàrl www.ioda-net.ch Bareos Partner, openSUSE Member, fsfe fellowship GPG KEY : D5C9B751C4653227 irc: tigerfoot -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
