[opensuse-factory] FIBMAP: Invalid argument
Dear devs, dear readers! I installed 12.1 Milestone 1 on Virtual Box (Packard Bell EasyNote LJ61) and tried to boot KDE now. The normal bootscreen came, but then the console said the following: FIBMAP: Invalid argument FIBMAP: Invalid argument (so on.....) then the normal log-in came: Welcome to openSUSE 12.1 "Asparagus" Milestone 1 - Kernel 2.6.39-2-default (tty1). linux-bqgy login: Anyone get the same? I´m downloading the M1 DVD now and will install the LXDE version on my notebook. Shall I open a bug report? I searched the openSUSE 12.1 section with the keyword KDE and didn´t find such bug. (Just the log-in bug for KDE, that kdm starts, but you can´t log-in.) kind regards -kdl -- Kim-Dennis Leyendecker openSUSE Ambassador / openSUSE Wiki Team DE HAVE A LOT OF FUN! http://www.opensuse.org | http://www.suse.de Have you tried SUSE Studio? This isn't new. The FIBMAP ioctl tries to determine the actual block on disk that a file is using. Most likely it's coming from preload, the tool that tries to check what things are in use and load them into memory so they will start quicker on future boots, and it is probably trying to map something that doesn't support mapping, such as a tmpfs or similar This message has been around forever. At some point someone should probably fix the preload code to check to see if the filesystem in question supports mapping before trying to do it, and just hide the error message Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Ok, https://gitorious.org/opensuse/preload/merge_requests/1 should workaround it. ;) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I won't maintain preload anymore once systemd is going to be default. systemd has its own readahead, that reportely doesn't work effectively, but preload will make it even worse without proper integration and I don't think systemd developers want 2 readahead solutions, so I would rather improve the systemd one.
