[opensuse-factory] iBook G3 success report
Once again, I updated my iBook (G3, 900 MHz, 640 MB) and it basically works (Gnome desktop): ke@linux-iuuz:~> cat /proc/cpuinfo processor : 0 cpu : 750FX temperature : 0-9 C (uncalibrated) clock : 400.000000MHz revision : 2.3 (pvr 7000 0203) bogomips : 22.01 timebase : 24835245 platform : PowerMac machine : PowerBook4,3 motherboard : PowerBook4,3 MacRISC2 MacRISC Power Macintosh detected as : 257 (iBook 2 rev. 2) pmac flags : 0000001b L2 cache : 512K unified pmac-generation : NewWorld Two issues I do not like: 1/ During the update, it still destroy my dual-boot setup. It still forgets to keep or add such two lines in lilo.conf: other = /dev/hda9 label = macos 2/ Even if the load is just 0.03, the area next to the touchpad stays rather hot. Is this where the HD is located? I'm wondering what might be the best way to enable powermanagement on the iBook? -- Karl Eichwalder R&D / Documentation SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

3/ Sound does not seem to work. If I insert an audio CD, Banshee gets started, but it does not play the music. -- Karl Eichwalder R&D / Documentation SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Did you check the volume settings in mixer? Did you try to play some file? The mixer does not start at all. Obviously, YaST was not able to configure the sound driver automatically: hwinfo --sound 14: None 00.0: 0401 Multimedia audio controller [Created at prom.336] Unique ID: rdCR.ITz6G5CcwPB Hardware Class: sound Model: "Apple Integrated Sound (awacs)" Vendor: int 0x0401 "Apple" Device: int 0x0010 "Integrated Sound (awacs)" Driver Info #0: Driver Status: snd-powermac is not active Driver Activation Cmd: "modprobe snd-powermac" Config Status: cfg=yes, avail=yes, need=no, active=unknown Sound Configuration ┌───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────┐ │Index │Card Model │ │Not configured│Integrated Sound (awacs) │ │ │ After clicking "Edit" and "Quick something" it now plays system beeps. Now there seems to be a gstreamer problem. -- Karl Eichwalder R&D / Documentation SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Now there seems to be a gstreamer problem.
There was no banshee-engine-gst installed. Maybe, because of this conflict: |banshee-engine-gst-0.13.2-81.ppc requires banshee = 0.13.2, but this |requirement cannot be p -- Karl Eichwalder R&D / Documentation SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nuernberg) --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
