[opensuse-factory] How to change this: oddball@linux-h7s7, to this: oddball@AMD64x2-sfn1 ?
Hi, I used 'automatic configuration', not exactly knowing 'what' would be automaticly configuered.., when doing a fresh install beta2.... I ended up with oddball@linux-h7s7 in terminals (konsole) and Yast. I changed the hostname and netbiosname, but the above still stays the same... tia for an answer. -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (Now or never...) If you mean my typo Alt+F1 versus Alt+Ctrl+F1 it makes a _big_ difference here. Alt+F1 in openSUSE KDE is the same as clicking on the Lizard. Alt+Ctrl+F1 takes you to the command line (first virtual console). There you can log in as root and give the commands. If you change the hostname with YaST in the graphical environment you will see the old one in the Konsole (graphical) as long as you don't stop the graphical environment with init 3. This is not a bug or any other misfunction. When you then are in runlevel 3 and then command init 5 you start the graphical environment again. If you still then have the old hostname there's something wrong. If this is a bug or a mistake in changing the hostname, I don't know. The way you change it with YaST is: YaST > Network Devices > Network Settings There you untic "Change Hostname via DHCP" Then you change the hostname manually. After this, init 3 and then init 5 as root in command line. Now the new hostname should be there. -- Vahis -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

The way you change it with YaST is:
YaST > Network Devices > Network Settings
There you untic "Change Hostname via DHCP" Then you change the hostname manually.
After this, init 3 and then init 5 as root in command line.
Now the new hostname should be there.
No, not referring to the typo, saw that.. You are right, this does work, no bug there. Thanks for your concern, and the clear guiding. -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (Now or never...) How's about simple old "vi /etc/HOSTNAME" if all else fails. You may have to logout and login again. "hostname -F /etc/HOSTNAME" if that file is correct. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... As this stuff is still Beta, it has its quirks, (x86_64 boxes) -- on one box KDE4 kwin keeps dying, CTRL-ALT-F1 and back to F7 restores it, also can't ssh into this box either - fine on all others. On one other box KDE4 is fine and on a laptop radeonhd doesn't work and I'm back to KDE3 with the plain radeon driver. I haven't reported these to bugs, will do if problems still there after Beta3 update. The one x86 box on KDE3 everything is fine. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ...
