[opensuse-factory] Which mail client or MUA do you prefer?
My thunderbird/icedove is often broken nowadays by someone. So I'm reading the manuals of alpine or mutt. What's your opinion? That -factory is not the appropriate list for it. (Strict requirements leave few clients: me needing to search the header and contents of all messages for substrings, display messages in threaded fashion, be able to show mail headers, and do it all by keyboard navigation alone. That already excludes many MUAs, and there is not much more to say than that the pines stuck, since 16 years. Totally unrelated: openSUSE Pine, as a joke contender for openSUSE Oak.) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Both are text-only mua. No mouse, no clicky. After the initial learning courve, both are very versatile. But to be honest, the initial learning of mutt is more steep than that of alpine. The moment the setup is done just right, and you know enough to handle most of your daily tasks, both are more or less equal. I've started my "using email" on the original pine back in 1996, and I'm still using alpine to this day for most of my email needs. Thus for me Alpine is easier than Mutt. Getting the setup done right is a pain, no matter what MUA at all. - Yamaban. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Pine at least supports mouse in an xterm. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)

Do you refer to that software in the Tumbleweed release? I can't say. However, I use Thunderbird in 13.1 and I have no problems at all. But if you are using one of the openSUSE stable releases, then this is the wrong mail list.
So I'm reading the manuals of alpine or mutt. What's your opinion?
I use Alpine daily, it is very good and fast. It depends on your needs, though. Mutt is somewhat more difficult to use, but also more powerful and configurable. Some say that mutt is pine on steroids :-) Notice that you can use several mail clients on the same mail accounts, even simultaneously. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
