maybe, but... After starting X before logging in, <ctrl><alt><back-space><back-space>, resets X and problem is gone. I don't believe that the NVidia driver but some change in starting X, perhaps timing. Is this feasible? Notice that I didn't have the problem before yesterday and now have it with 4 previous NVidia drivers which didn't display the problem. tks, -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Given that if you load the nvidia drivers into your system, you have created something that we can not debug and can not support at all, it's a bit hard to tell sorry. As always, if you use Tumbleweed with closed source video drivers, you are on your own. good luck, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Didn't you update a kernel? Did you rebuild the nvidia driver after that? Anyway, nvidia troubles are something we can do nearly nothing about. - -- js suse labs -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.19 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://www.enigmail.net/ iQIcBAEBAgAGBQJQdnNcAAoJEL0lsQQGtHBJ72AP/2KjxdfI7or5gSS8w+SbxpKM d9F2TXQx8EEh+dW78T6glYA0VQ98s1Rss+hzH7+7if2jgj972D6soW2zuRFrwPEv GrGfYjlloKuroDvb83MvrsIfsQd4YJuBRkj2EHB2DYia2rOuCzsVpY/qxP2+/9aX 8hIJMEiK8GC/+MHg+JZfjNFTt9LEexWirECKnPYM4dIDaojW2DSZL5ovcq99jL1w SxXkSvsN2MycoXDSOPStgkTS3jrfku582FUkwFwVNntn7qMqMeiBuSNpH8QlFf0c FsX5yHEA0PNbhxezgRcHeRX4LwuUBWIKVDDRjBCtDeTzM9qdxXTA25RW2ffA2jeB 42lZrZ+uv2Y5h18G8w54p+kJcLHoHMsubBkhd+JjS/JumHuM7wTDaTb5IXV8e6PC jG/4bt6Lmog4iDz0Z6p5dxrL8C7meNXuRBNlBMMbVj4JCxD3RYbz3WrVMRMfuJ2N Y2tB1Q33MPYK1uv9sSYwHv6NnIaPBZ/sqxmWwgaJz9sHwoDqIPBOpEUOEcbBvOTc iZE4OsnilEyPevdjS8fKsSFD6zL7kPs4tKQQvKoq2PW6CEithb8cSAhT9kyZPPzQ dAjJGRvrb4ERXJQi1niZ2DYxE7ykKH3yRjt7vYVCohOHaTwobYPM8KOZFbUqWG5n eBz2+ApJ96z5TOw+FMHO =vdkp -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

updated kernel and rebuild nvidia driver, in fact three different kernels and four different nvidia drivers w/o resolution. And three of the nvidia drivers and two of the kernels did not previously show the problem but did until today. A reboot today and the problem is gone but I know not why. tks,
This "reset X and a garbled screen is OK again" does also appear as a workaround in bug nr 779447, which is a duplicate of771392, though that was issued against 12.2, kernel 3.4XXXX. Hardware also Nvidia, but driver nouveau. Was diagnosed as a kernel regression. But maybe it has nothing to do with this one...
