openSUSE Release Engineering meeting 21.08.2024
How to join the meeting? https://calendar.opensuse.org/teams/release/events/opensuse-release-engineer... All meeting minutes can be found here: https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/ReleaseEngineering-meeting ## Attendees: ana, Sarah, max, ddemaio,Dimstar, lkocman, rfrohl, smithfarm, MarcelR (luriv), adamm NOTICE! the meeting url is https://meet.opensuse.org/meeting ## Leap * Leap 16 publishing is again operational after a holiday break (missing directory fixed by Adrian). Installer images will be newly published into https://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/16.0/installer/iso (I suppose the bind mounts are missing for ftp-prod). I'll drop email to autobuild@. * agama-installer-openSUSE -> agama-installer (comes with drop of Playwright flavor, and drop of related dependencies in favor of new agama-integration-tests) * You can now pass custom repositories to agama on boot by agama.install_url=https://repo1,https://repo2 details in https://github.com/openSUSE/agama/pull/1545 This was considered a blocker for publicly advertised Alpha, as we could not practically test unreleased changes. Submitted to both Leap 16.0 and TW. You can also grab image with this functionality here https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/systemsmanagement:/Agama:/Devel/i... * Next step is to move https://openqa.opensuse.org/group_overview/126 from openSUSE:Leap:16.0:Images to openSUSE:Leap:16.0 so we can tests all the changes in product before publishing (we need to start passsing https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/openSUSE:/Leap:/16.0/product/repo... to agama ). And configure TTM to handling publishing. Existing setup tests basically changes in agama installer and our infra instead of unpublished changes in Leap 16.0 packages. (last blocker for somehow publicly advertising Leap as Alpha) Max set up adi-style staging for 16.0 (details in his section), I've already used it for updating agama stack. Branding update: Working on distro icons in product list in a spare timehttps://github.com/openSUSE/agama/issues/1415 I'd like to finish initial branding PR for Leap 16 this week https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/pull/154 I personally consider a new wallpaper blocker for any public advertisement on Alpha, people (including me) expect a new look. Especially after sharing initial screenshots with new branding on social networks. We have some more photos with our plushy mascot submitted into https://github.com/openSUSE/wallpapers/issues/18 Regarding Cloud - Microsoft pinging us about the status of Tumbleweed cloud image in Azure community gallery, they'd like to use that for their blog post ... ## openSUSE Tumbleweed (ana) openSUSE:Factory build fail stats: 19 failed 2 unresolvable (last week 30 failed, 5 unresolvable) https://tinyurl.com/ysy4nnnz 504 requests accepted in the last week Most relevant updates: Linux Kernel 6.10.4 and 6.10.5 Linux Kernel Longterm 6.6.45, 6.6.46 and 6.6.47 systemd 256.5 go1.22 as default go version python-pytest 8.3.2 Xen 4.19.0 doxygen 1.12.0 flatpak 1.15.10 Soon: dbus-broker: last failures in openQA are agreed to be 'ignorable'; openQA PR pending to actually mark them as such. Blocked: python312 (FTBFS: python-xmlschema, python-Twisted:test, python-executing, python-pandas:test*, python-wxPython:python*) ### longer-lasting topics Switch default LSM from AppArmor to SELinux, see https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/factory@lists.opensuse.org/thread/Y... GCC 14: second phase ongoing, use gcc14 as the default compiler (Staging:Gcc7): 6 failed (1 x86_64, 5 i586), please everybody see this mail for the list of packages requiring attention https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/factory@lists.opensuse.org/thread/M... ## Richard (Aeon+botmaster) Not available ## Max * Staging project for Leap 16.0 is up; the required bots are running on botmaster * Fixed patterns-gnome problem with opensuse-welcome * Moved agama-installer to main project to instead of to build it in Images subproject(the build error has been fixed) ## Guillaume - Arm Not available ## Sarah - s390x * Tumbleweed * Kernel bug fixed, but will be improved upstream -> rolling again * Many applications (written in GO) are failing, because CGO_ENABLED is not enabled -> changes in spec files CGO_ENABLED=1 are helping s390x, ppcle and i586 (i.e. kubectl applications) ## Doug * openSUSE.Asia Summit * 70 Submission * TSP * Several new submissions for openSUSE.Asia Summit * More requests than funds * 22 totaling more than 27k * Will likely have a hotel cap for all & a max amount on transport lkocman: alternatively you could cover transport cost but not the hotel (or vice versa). * FrOSCon * Several questions about Leap 16 and the project. * Start looking at submitting a booth for FOSDEM * GSoC * Finals will be August 26 - Sept. 2 (For most) lkocman: getting questions about linuxdays.cz (largest event in CZ). We'll have booth and Leap 16 talk there https://pretalx.linuxdays.cz/linuxdays-2024/cfp CFP is still open. * AI topics (static) ## Dirk Not available ## Wolfgang (Package Hub), Scott Bahling, Nathan Cutler Max: The setup for openSUSE:Backports:SLE-15-SP7 is done, staging project is up, the required bots are running on botmaster, since there is no snapshot type repository for 15-SP7(15.7) additionally it does not make sense to use 15.6 snapshot, thus all buildprojects have been switched to use pool repo. PH team has trying to bring back python3-Django and python3-Pillow in SLE-15-SP6 because customer has asked for the python 3.6 builds of these packages to (continue to) be available. Official request in to SCC for Package Hub module in SLE-15-SP7. (SOLELY from Package HUB for SLES 16 content/shipping perspective, not Leap). This I feel is a blocker for figuring out how to build it. lkocman: Initial questions about Leap 16 based PH for SLES 16 on today's SLFO call by Hector (Power prjm). I personally do have some questins/blockers with Product Management that has to be clarified first. E.g. can we offer Micro exclusive features in PackageHUB for SLES etc. As in would that not undermine some of the Product Management radical decisions etc ... Libor Miksik (release manager) is tracking it as a topic with PM. Leap 16 maintenance model not decided yet, but it might make sense to use the ALP model lkocman: Very likely the same as for Leap Micro 6.X/SLFO. Discussion how to build Package Hub in SLES 16 - opportunity to simplify and save resources. ## Maintenance team (Marcus, Robert) - chromium released - problem with pending reviews not coming in, causing update backlog Lkocman can help with legaldb reviews for Leap packages. Sebastian enabled others to contribute license patterns to legaldb. https://github.com/openSUSE/cavil/blob/master/docs/Contributors.md ## Adrian - OBS ## Bernhard - Slowroll Not available ## Bernhard - reproducible builds Not available ## Adam - Git Workflow systemsmanagement:cockpit migration successful and live issues with `scm-staging` bot -- being fixed `pr-review` workflow not yet fully automated -- needs maintainer workflow (being worked on, soon) `gitea-events-rabbitmq-publisher` -- live for devel project needed to move away from syncronous webhooks to RabbitMQ for even processing TODO: make it live for instance, which would require {org} discovery via message parsing `obs-status-service` -- svg cannot be scripted if embedded in README.md https://src.opensuse.org/adamm/autogits -- code AGit workflow -- probably ideal workflow aka, Push-to-create-PR --- no need for forks! https://git-repo.info/en/2020/03/agit-flow-and-git-repo/ lkocman: FYI the move of agama-installer from openSUSE:Leap:16.0:Images to openSUSE:Leap:16.0 moved basically the only git-maintained package back to legacy scm based workflow. (there is still one qcow image, but that one is not really actively worked on). ## Open Floor -- Best regards Luboš Kocman openSUSE Leap Release Manager
