[opensuse-factory] User Feedback for opensuse 12.2 RC2 (KDE)

Hello, I don't need help with these issues, and i didn't search for any possible bug reports. Just a few notes about (more or less negative) prominences. Though i can handle/workaround/live with these issues, they might influence the beginners user experience in a negative way. I relate to a usual installation with RC-12.2 and KDE as desktop. (I don't think that this influences the following issues. however mentioned: i worked on a virtual machine (VirtualBox), and i accessed it per NX.) -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the Yast repository manager I miss the packman repository. That makes me insecure: Don't i need it anymore? Or do i have to replace it with another repository? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Thunderbirds message list (at least) the date column shows the wrong sort direction. More exact: It shows the sort direction of the *previous* shown mail folder. It shows this wrong sort direction until i hover it with the mouse. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In system settings (window behaviour / moving) i miss the options to not display the window content when moving/resizing. But when i click the help button, these options are still listed in the then shown KDE Help Center. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I want to set the digital clock (in the panel) to 24h view. There's no hint (not to mention a direct link)) in the "RightClick" dialogues, that i have to set it with the system settings locale. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- During installation i set time zone to austria, the keyboard to german, but the country in the systems settings locale tab is first set to SystemCountry/US. Don't know if that's a feature or a bug, because i also sat the language to english . -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- When i then set the country to austria (inclusive apply button), the digital clock stays on 12h view (without a hint that this will change not until a new login). -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The paste-bin widget (from the default widget collection and with pre-set imagebin server "wstav.org"): When i throw a picture into this widget (which in the meanwhile i have "installed" to my desktop), a button "Open browser" appears, and a notify which says that the URL is in the clipboard now. Pasting then only works with ctrl-v, but not with the middle mouse. Pressing the "Open browser" button does nothing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I work with libre-office (just for example), but switched to another program in the meanwhile. When i now want to close libre-offfice per right-click in the task-bar, it doesn't work. More exact: Nothing happens. Reason: I left open an "open file" dialogue (which i cannot see first, because current focus is on another program). I think by myself: Why isn't there any hint about that when pressing right-click/close? Or at least: Why isn't libre-office focused at that moment, so that i get attention to the "blocking" dialogue? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Regularely (1x/hour?) there appears the following notify: "Authorization failed. Failed to obtain authentication." (http://wstaw.org/m/2012/08/11/snapshot4.png). I assume that this comes from the micro-blogging client "choqok", which i started once, but not yet gave it the requested authentication informations. But in the notify mentioned above, there is no hint about that at all. Click on it does nothing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Given that Kate is running in KDE Activity X. When i want to open a text file with kate in another KDE Activity (Y), there doesn't open a new kate window in Y, but the text file is opened in the kate in Activity X, and X becomes the active Activity. That's very confusing. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- % cnf javac javac: command not found # zypper install java-1_7_0-openjdk-devel % which javac /usr/bin/javac --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Might be continued ... db -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I can't get it to work on my 12.2rc2 either: Unless someone can find something wrong with this file: http://opensuse-community.org/openSUSE_122_Community_Additional.xml I'll assume it's YaST that is doing something weird, or isn't doing something. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

The thread is actually what is shown in my Subject heading. Someone (Baumann) hijacked the thread and called the post "Packman Repository". I am replying to the original thread and not the hijacked, bogus one. My reply also is confirming that Packman repo is actually listed in YaST in the oS 12.1 as there was some uncertainty if it was in 12.1 or not. Hi Thanks for your efforts. You've identified real annoyances, things that when fixed, would add up to a real improvement for openSUSE, and several things are pretty easy to fix, so could be a good entry route for new openSUSE contributors. Core contributors are usually too busy fixing Big Bad Bugs. But: Please make proper bug reports for these issues. If every tester posted their feedback here without bug reports, and contributors tried to handle the issues here, how quickly would it become unworkable? There are dedicated tools for the job. It's fine though to discuss a referenced set of bugs here, because of their overall impact, and it's fine to discuss on opensuse-project@ the perceived need to report bugs here because bugzilla gets too little attention or because it's too hard to sign up or report a bug. Please use the tools as intended in the meanwhile. Having said that I can't resist the urge to add my 2 cents on your issues, see below... Will
This function was moved to the Resize effect (set Scale window off, Show outline one) but the checkbox in window behaviour/moving was not converted to configure and enable the effect like this directly. Commit dd55fc8a in kde- workspace.
It would be easy to add a 'Set Time Format' button that opens this System Settings page.
Feature - KDE sets its Locale settings from the system language by default - this is what "System Country" indicates.
This is a missing feature in upstream KDE, that the clock applet is not signalled by Locale changes. It was present in KDE 3 but it hasn't been reimplemented since. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=274522 kde-workspace/kcontrol/dateandtime/maincpp: #if 0 // Tell the clock applet about the change so that it can update its timezone QDBusInterface clock("org.kde.kicker", "/Applets/Clock", "org.kde.kicker.ClockApplet"); clock.call("reconfigure"); #endif It wouldn't be hard to add back here, and as described in aseigo's comment in the above bug.
By default in X you have 2 separate clipboards, and all Copy actions copy to the Clipboard and not to the Selection. You can change this behaviour with Klipper if you like.
Pressing the "Open browser" button does nothing.
This works for me.
Definitely a bug in Choqok, and very low priority for me. Would be best reported upstream.
Activities support has to added to each KDE app, and I see that Kate hasn't got round to it yet: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=284474
