[opensuse-factory] 11.3 Product Highlights
Now that the countdown for 11.3 has begun[1], I needed something that my counter button could link to, so I've begun work on the product highlights page for 11.3[2]. Please add stuff there if you're aware of "product highlights" in 11.3, that I have not already mentioned there. "Switched to Upstart for init system" - is that correct? My M6 test system seems to be running sysvinit. (just curious - my gut feeling is that this is such a major change that it ought to wait for 12.0.) -- Per Jessen, Zürich (8.8°C) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I understood that it will be possible to switch to upstart but it's not default or really supported. http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2010-05/msg00168.html Wolfgang -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

It looks like it will be backed out, either way upstart only ran the exisiting sysv init scripts so there will be no change at all and I don't see why this should be mentioned as a "feature". -- Guido Berhoerster -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I wonder if it would make sense to mention gcc 4.5 there in some way, esp. as it's what the whole system is compiled with. Robert Kaiser -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

[1] http://en.opensuse.org/Countdown [2] http://en.opensuse.org/Product_highlights_11.3 this looks like a perfect basis to create an 11.3 page similar to the 11.2 page [3] we had. Thanks to Martin starting this page.

The product highlights page has been moved to the new wiki instead - please add stuff there: http://wiki.opensuse.org/Product_highlights_11.3 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

It's a good start but I'd suggest some shorter URL. How about something like 11.3-Highlights or 11.3/highlights (if we can have structure) or something? I just decided to follow the existing scheme as such a page existed for 11.2 too. And as michl said it can serve as a basis for /OpenSUSE_11.3 which is easier to remember. Maybe we should just do the 11.3 page directly. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
