[opensuse-factory] openSUSE Leap 15.1 + SoundBlaster Zx (Core3D/ca0132)
Hi all, first of all: I hope this is the right mailing list, if not please send me to the correct one Since I've read that some graphics and multimedia hardware sup- port has been backported from a newer Linux kernel, I just in- stalled Leap 15.1 to check if my SoundCard (a Creative Sound- Blaster Zx) now works, but alas it still doesn't produce any sound. I know that it works with Tumbleweed, but I'd rather use Leap for my main Workstation. Would it be possible to merge Connor McAdams' patches (applied by Suses Takashi Iwai: https://lkml.org/lkml/2018/10/2/1231) some- time in the future for Leap 15.1 or do you guys have any other ideas how I might convince Leap to play sound with this card? All the relevant patches have been already merged into Leap 15.1 kernel. I guess your problem is about the mixer configuration and/or the lack of firmware files. Unfortunately the firmware files aren't included in linux-firmware tree yet. I'd need to ping the relevant parties for going forward, but it's been pending so far due to lack of time... Thanks for your response! It's comforting to hear that Leap 15.1's kernelalready has everything that'd be needed. To rule out a miscon- figured mixer: Do you haveany pointers as to how I might have to configure thesoundmixer or could I provide you with further infor- mation that'd help fix my problem? - Alex You might install pavucontrol, start that and check the settings of pulse.

Well, ca0132 has some special mixer elements, and I forgot the details. In anyway, you can open alsamixer program with -c0 option (or -c1, whatever matching with the sound card index number), and adjust some of them. IIRC, the headphone output was mutual exclusive. But, beware that the behavior depends on the model, and also depends on the presence of the firmware file. So, first off, check whether the firmware got loaded or not. It should appear in the kernel messages. If your board requests ctefx-desktop.bin or ctefx-r3di.bin, the firmware files can be found in Connor's github repo: https://github.com/Conmanx360/linux-firmware HTH, Takashi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

HTH,

Awesome - that helped! ctefx-desktop.bin and ctefx.bin were missing. Thank you all very much :) - Alex -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Good to hear! I've merged the missing firmware files into alsa-firmware git repo, and I'm going to update Leap 15.1 and TW alsa-firmware packages to include these files. So, later on, you can simply install alsa-firmware.rpm for these files.
