[opensuse-factory] Poppler update, with no qt3 frontend
Hi, I'm planning to update poppler to 0.17.x/0.18.0 in Factory. One big change, though, is that the qt3 frontend has been removed. As far as I can tell, there is nothing in Factory that needs this, so it should not be a big issue. But please shout loud very soon if this is one for you. Cheers, Vincent -- Les gens heureux ne sont pas pressés. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I think it is needed by kdegraphics3. Also it is used by KDE3's KOffice. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

For KDE 3, I suggest to simply keep building the poppler 0.16.x package (that you can copy from Factory right now) in the KDE3 project in the build service. This way, you'll still have the qt3 frontend. Currently there is a discussion in poppler mailing list and one man agreed to make poppler-qt3 available for poppler-0.18 as a separate package. Otherwise I of course will remove the need for poppler-qt3 as it is actually not necessary for anything critical (kpdf and kword do not use it actually) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Whatever solution: we can't have a poppler clone - pdf security issues are just too frequent. Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

It is not a clone I think but a front-end, it was a constituent part of poppler-0.16 and may become an optional part of poppler-0.18 if the man will do it if course. Anyway I will remove the need for poppler from kdegraphis3 and koffice and the we will just see whether the poppler guys will release poppler-0.18 with (optional) qt3 support or not. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

So we already have a preliminary qt3 front-end for poppler 0.17, thanks to poppler guys: http://gyvern.ipc.hiroshima-u.ac.jp/~mpsuzuki/poppler-qt3-0.17.0_20110918a.t... It will be updated to 0.18 version as soon as it is ready. I did not try to build it in OBS yet though. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

By the way, the website says the latest stable release is 0.16.7 which includes qt3 wrapper... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Yes, as I mentioned, the plan is to update to 0.17.x/0.18.0. That means 0.17.4 (0.18.0 RC) right now, and the stable 0.18.0 when it's released (September 26th).
