[opensuse-factory] Why is a bug in Factory yast2-qt-pkg dismissed as not being in beta1?
Hi, I filed bug 382202 thinking I was doing good in alerting the developers of a problem that could cause future problems. I have an up to date factory system and filed the bug as being in factory. I am obviously confused as to how to file a bug because it is marked as resolved with this comment :- "Really, I don't care what any random FACTORY snapshot does. There is no way to support FACTORY on that level. Please test a released version like Beta1." Unfortunately I do not have bandwidth, until next month, to download Beta1 so I do not know which yast2 version is in factory. Is it pre yast2-qt-pkg-2.16.37 with dummy version tags, The bug has been there for quite a while and I do not have time to trace which version it came from but it definitely exist in yast2-qt-pkg-2.16.36. It is not easy to report a bug, trying to do so in words that would be clearly understood and upload necessary logs. I thought I was doing my bit for the opensuse community. Am I lead to believe that reporting bugs in factory is no longer wanted? Your reply appreciated. I am not answering your specific question but I do sympathise with you with the general thrust of your concern. I find it difficult to come to grips with the notion of having to report 'bugs' while trying out something like Beta 1 (or whatever) because one doesn't know if it IS a bug, and if others are experiencing it as well, or something which is only related to your installation (because you didn't do something correctly, eg). It takes more time to find out if it is a 'bug' by trawling thru the bug reports than by simply asking a question here, in this mail list, but then, doing so, one is always aware that the first requirement of anyone before asking a question here is to make sure that it hasn't already been reported as a 'bug'. And then one also is intimidated by what you are stating has occurred to you (above). I have read what was said in the 'bug report' and find that it is totally mind-boggling to find it being implied that a Beta is a completely different animal to a Factory 'snapshot'! (And, to reinforce the point, one cannot talk about a Beta in the openSUSE mail list because any discussion about a Beta belongs in the factory mail list!) I see you've installed beta1. Try selecting some packages in yast and then clicking the close window X on the title bar. You then have a box asking abandon or cancel. Click cancel, which should cancel the closing of yast. The command to find the pid of the program you have to close to get yast or zypper to work again is ps -AF|grep y2base just to save you the trouble of finding it yourself. You need to update beta1 you have to enable the factory repo anyway and thats where the problem comes from. But have you read my msg, "Updating Beta 1", I posted earlier? What ARE the repos I have to enable to get Beta 1 upgraded/updated? You're not using Factory - you're using some wild mix between Factory and build service and it's impossible to support such a setup. If you installed Factory from network and you see such a problem, it's ok. But as soon as you add random packages to the mix without updating the full stack and it works for a developer, it's very valid to go for WORKSFORME. Our developers are not "debug my system" bots. If you managed to break it and are not able to fix it yourself, please reinstall - or ask for support here, but don't blame the developer for closing your support request hidden as bug report. You're not using Factory - you're using some wild mix between Factory and build service and it's impossible to support such a setup.
If I'm using any wild mix it is a mix between 10.3 beta 2 (that is the only CD I have at the moment) and factory. I avoid build service normally If you installed
Factory from network and you see such a problem, it's ok.
I install all factory from network and never indicated otherwise. Read the bug carefully. But as soon as you
add random packages to the mix without updating the full stack and it works for a developer, it's very valid to go for WORKSFORME.
I reopened the bug (read bug report) after updating to present factory and very often present factory is broken.
Our developers are not "debug my system" bots. I debug my own system. If you managed to break it Check out bug 379480 thats when my system last broke! and are not able to fix it yourself, please reinstall
I have not broken anything, in fact the bug has been there for a while, I just stumbled on it by accident and thought it would be good to nip it in the bud. - or ask for support
here, but don't blame the developer for closing your support request hidden as bug report. It is not a support request, I can get by using the close button instead of the close window but can everybody get by? I am trying to prevent future support requests.
Greetings, Stephan
I only used build service yast2-qt-pkg and I state only, because it had a working version tab, the rest of my packages are pure factory, and maybe 10.3 beta 2. I downgraded yast2-qt-pkg to factory again when 2.16.37 became available on factory. I downgraded even further to 2.16.36 which is old factory and still had the problem. Meanwhile I have wasted time updating qt's 3 & 4. I am only trying to help, I am not asking for support, I am just asking if I am doing the right thing or should I just mind my own business and let you lot get on with it.
