[opensuse-factory] the latest nss-pam-ldapd package for 12.2?
Hi Is it too late to ask for the latest nss-pam-ldapd package to be included in 12.2? The latest stable version is 0.8.10 whilst 12.1 and 12.2 are stuck with the older 0.7.x series. Thanks L x -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
Lynn, 12.2 entered feature freeze weeks (or months) ago. There is no way that will get onto the Gold master. I'm almost positive the only fixes still going in are those that prevent installation, booting, or installation of security updates. Hi, If there is a specific reason to include a newer version of a package it can also be delivered by maitnenance update. But please not newer versions for just the sake of higher version numbers. Ciao, Marcus On Fri, Aug 17, 2012 at 11:14:36AM -0400, Greg Freemyer wrote:

The 0.8.x series has major improvements for Active Directory LDAP integration. e.g. now, it looks in the DN for group membership. With Samba4 just around the corner, I think that this may become very useful. Ubuntu already have it. It's not such a big pain to build it myself it would be a step forward I think if we had an official openSUSE rpm for it in 12.2 The stable version is 0.8.10. Tested against 12.2 RC2 with a Samba4 AD. Cheers, Steve -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

What about backward compatibility? Will it run without recompilation of other packages? Will it need updates to configuration files to work?

If it's no problem for you to build it yourself, I suggest you build it as part of the openSUSE Build Service and thus update the existing package. ;) thanks, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger aj@{suse.com,opensuse.org} Twitter/Identica: jaegerandi SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GF: Jeff Hawn,Jennifer Guild,Felix Imendörffer,HRB16746 (AG Nürnberg) GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

OK, I'll have a go. I can build from a tar.gz. Is it a big step to go from there to Build Service? Can you point me at a howto? I had a quick look but it seems a little complex to say the least;) Cheers, Steve -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Phew, that looks complex. Is it? Maybe best to leave this one to the boss! Cheers, Steve -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

If you can build from a tarball, then you can build an rpm.. almost certainly. A very easy start on writing a .spec file can be found at http://dominique.leuenberger.net/blog/2009/05/rpm-packaging-for-beginners/ Enjoy! Hi Ralf, please check https://build.openSUSE.org/request/show/131140 To me it's clear that this is much to late for openSUSE 12.2. On Fri, Aug 17, 2012 at 11:35:15PM +0200, lynn wrote:

IMHO it doesn't make sense to push it without wider testing into openSUSE 12.2. As soon as we see defect reports filed we might consider an upgrade of nss-pam-ldapd later. It's not enough if it got used sucessfully by one user. Cheers, Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team + SUSE Labs SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany

Steve, If it's not clear, the above SR is to network:ldap / nss-pam-ldapd which is the offical devel package for nss-pam-ldapd. The SR updates it to 8.10.0. Assumjing it is accepted, anyone can then pull 8.10 from the devel package and get it. You should review the SR, it is pretty basic in this case. The real work is the tar.gz file is replaced in full. I only see one meaningful change to the specfile. Check out this tutorial for how you can use OBS to patch a package for bug fix purposes: http://en.opensuse.org/Build_Service_Tutorial#A_start_to_end_example_of_a_si... (It is a number of steps, but you will get the hang of it if you do several.) Submit Request. The basic concept of OBS is there is a tier of repos. 3 at a minimum if your developing a patch for a package in the release. factory (this is where a release is pulled from every 8 months) devel project (this is where stable packages should get initial testing. I often install packages from devel projects if I want the latest stable version.) home project (this is your personal copy of the package. I never install from home projects unless its my home. Who knows what people are doing to a home package.) The idea is you develop a new patch / update in your home project, then issue a SR to the devel project. A devel project maintainer reviews it and either accepts it or rejects it. Then it get's SR'ed to factory for inclusion in the next release. There is also a 12.2 update project. An SR to there will eventually cause a update to the full 12.2 community via the normal update mechanism. There are lots of tools that assist in the above process. Please try the tutorial I posted and correct the wiki page if you find errors in the process. I am curious - what are the reasons for not using sssd here? Yeah, I am be interested in the answer to this question as well. I have already considered filing a drop request to nss-pam-ldapd because I don't have any time left for following upstream and packaging it and sssd seems to offer most of what nss-pam-ldapd does today.
