[opensuse-factory] Extended Chromium builds for openSUSE !
Dear list mates, Based on the official chromium tarballs, the process of building Chromium for openSUSE has become a lot easier. This allowed me to extend the Chromium offering for openSUSE users and the following is now available: openSUSE releases and Factory will follow the stable channel updates. I believe this is the right way where a stable Chromium is provided with a stable openSUSE release The OBS repository network:chromium, will provide besides the chromium package (stable channel), also the following packages: chromium-beta (This is based on the beta channel releases) chromium-dev (This is based on the dev channel releases). Please be aware that these packages are mutual exclusive and it is ONLY possible to install one of them. This to prevent issues with the chromium config files for the user. The Packman OBS has been updated to build the corresponding ffmpeg packages for each build to prevent issues. For me (oS 12.3), at least chromium-beta crashes whenever it tries to autofill. That is, it even crashes in its own settings. This is caused by a very old bug in libicu 49.1[0][1] that is fixed in 49.1.2, thus not affecting Factory. However, 12.3 and 12.2 have this 18 months old icu. I branched icu of 12.3 and updated it to 49.2.1 in https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/home:jritzerfeld:branches:openSUSE:1... Can anyone else confirm that this problem really exists and libicu 49.1.2 fixes the problem? Dear all, I experienced the same problem, with chromium segfaulting upon using input fields, even with autofill disabled. This was independent of chromium version (30.*/32.*) on openSUSE Tumbleweed. I have tried the updated libicu and that seems to fix the problem, which makes me rather happy! ;) All the best, Peter P.S.: Thank you for your work on chromium Raymond, the different release channels are a nice touch and I can finally throw out Chrome Beta as a "backup" in case Chromium dev breaks! -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I wonder why it worked so long for me. These crashes appeared after some other updates this week.
I have tried the updated libicu and that seems to fix the problem,
Okay. Then I will open a bug report and try to update icu at least in 12.3.
which makes me rather happy! ;)
You are welcome.

I second that! Gruß Jan -- You can make it foolproof, but you can't make it damn foolproof. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I did not have to do the latter: Raymond fixed this problem in the chromium builds. So you can go back to standard icu.
