[opensuse-factory] problems with kmail connecting to gmail IMAP since last snapshot
problem: kmail (v5.5.0) connection to gmail IMAP breaks now after every significant suspend (e.g. 1 hr). This requires either akonadictl restart or (sometimes works) settings:configure:accounts:<restart> I also note that settings:configure:accounts:<modify> is no longer accessible (no gui response) background: google access was formaly achieved by entering application access pin in the accounts section. After last update a dialouge appeared requiring google (html) sign in and authorization for access. Since then the problems have started. I have noted lots of posts regarding the switch to XOAUTH2 but really dont understand the details. terminal shows: Pass a valid window to KWallet::Wallet::openWallet(). qt.network.ssl: QSslSocket::startClientEncryption: cannot start handshake on non-plain connection org.kde.pim.kimap: Connection to server lost 0 org.kde.pim.imapresource: Session login cancelled org.kde.pim.akonadicore: The item sync is being rolled-back. org.kde.pim.kimap: Connection to server lost 0 org.kde.pim.akonadiserver: "Cannot connect to agent instance with identifier 'akonadi_imap_resource_3', error message: ''" does anyone else have similair experience? should i delete the account and re-implement? Is this a known bug (upstream/distro) with a fix coming? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I don't use kmail, but I can explain the situation with gmail. Yes, gmail by default uses an auth method called oauth2. Normal mail clients like daemons can not use this method, they need user interaction with a web page. Thunderbird currently does support it 8since about a year or so). I don't know if kmail does or not. If it doesn't, you have to log into the gmail control web page and "allow login by less secure applications" or similar wording. That's the trick we have to do to use, for instance, fetchmail. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Note that KMail 5.5, from Applications 17.04 (which should have landed in TW, or will soon) supports OAuth2 for GMail natively now.

Good to know :-) The OP is using v5.5.0 - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. I see this problem as well in earlier releases (currently KMail 5.4.3, before in 5.3, and probably on Leap 42.1 as well), even though I'm not using GMail, but GMX, 1&1 and Domainfactory hosting. Mostly an akonadi restart helps. One other question. Does autocompletion of addresses and sending to mailing lists (mailing list stored in KMail, with list explosion) work again? yes there where connection issues before, but just clicking between folders would 'wake it up', now it requires ardous messing, (note also the symptom of no longer being able to view or modify the account settings) [akonadi restart 4 times a day is unworkable over the long term] simple autocompletion of addresses still works as before (i do not used any advanced features) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Haven't had the need to edit accounts, but I confirm I see this too. Did you already report this at bugs.kde.org . -- Gertjan Lettink, a.k.a. not yet, there are a lot of parts to this (new auth), upstream/distro/user installation. I want to check first if its universal issue and if there are relevant distro specific changes made (there are lots of posts recently regarding rollout where upstream deflect saying there are distro changes required but i dont think these are the same issue). It could also be a bad installation change (i.e. my question regards deleting/remake my imap account) If i had to **guess** the problem from reading terminal messages and noticing suspend times it looks like there is a persistent auth connection which gets shut down on sustained inactivity (long suspend), after which kmail/ akonadi is unable to recover (i.e. re-establish a new connection). the accounts/gui issue could be a seperate bug or bad interface design. next time you leave computer for more than an hour or so you could try suspend/hibernate and see if things break on return. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

There is at least a similar one: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378514 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

yes, it is already an older problem. Just ran an upgrade and found that the mailing list explosion is still fricked up :-( Will update https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378011 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
