[opensuse-factory] VirtualBox problem when run as root
Same problem on factory with 2.1.4 and 2.2.0 on 11.2 Alpha0. Running VirtualBox as root on any box, it gets stuck at "futex(0x69bbcc, FUTEX_WAIT_PRIVATE, 1, NULL" as seen with "strace -s 256 -f VirtualBox". If I "ssh -X" in as root from another box, VirtualBox works fine, but locally as root on either box, doesn't work - works fine as user. Bug #487060 submitted 2009-03-19 19:20 MDT, but no response so far. I have seen the same problem with qjackctl which also runs OK as user. Some stuff just won't run as root because of the FUTEX_WAIT_PRIVATE problem. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... Hi Sid if you want to run VirtualBox or qjackctl as root under KDE you should use kdesu VirtualBox or kdesu qjackctl but I think it's not good idea, I recommend you to use this apps under normal user account bye -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

bye
I run it as user now. It used to run a while ago and the strange thing is that it will run as root across the network with ssh. Using kdesu VirtualBox as root ends the same way as just using VirtualBox. I also filed a new bug for printer problems as neither my HP Photosmart C4180 or Lexmark z600 will print. Even deleting and reinstalling the HP doesn't work. # lpq lpq: error - no default destination available. "http://localhost:631" looks OK, but a test print there shows the job queued, but that is all. lpq as user asks for the user password, but rejects it every time. I even tried setting up the HP on the x86_64 laptop, but that complains about the driver which is exactly the same file as on this box. Both have been upgraded with zypper dup in the last few days, both 11.2 Alpha0 x86_64. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... hi Sid try to run "kdesu VirtualBox" under user, but as I said it's not good idea to use it in normal state -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

That works, but I shall keep running it as user - it was just strange that it would work as root over ssh and not locally as it used to. Thanks and Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ...
