Hi, again I have massive problems with the openSUSE-installation on my Lenovo ThinkCentre M58p 6234-1AG (C2D E8400, Q45 Express, GMA 4500, 82567LM-3, kernel driver in use: i915). After the update of the openSUSE 11.3-installation today, the system is not booting with the Xen-kernel anymore. Unfortunately the vga-mode-settings in the menu.lst where changed wrong by the update, I corrected the settings, but I was not able to get the server up and running with the Xen-kernel. Finaly I made a distribution update to 11.4 Milestone 5. The result was not too bad, the system booted the standard kernel (2.6.37-desktop) without problems and seems to run fine. The grub-entry for the xen-kernel in the menu.lst was wrong and I corrected it again: title Xen -- openSUSE 11.4 Milestone 5 of 6 - 2.6.37 root (hd0,0) #kernel /xen.gz vga=mode-0x317 vga=mode-0x317 kernel /xen.gz vga=mode-0x317 module /vmlinuz-2.6.37-xen root=/dev/sda6 resume=/dev/sda2 splash=silent quiet showopts vga=0x317 module /initrd-2.6.37-xen But if I select the Xen-kernel, the system is still not booting, there is only a short flickering on the screen, then the system reboots. I already tried to change the "vga"-options to "0xF00", "normal", remove it, set "splash=0" and "nomodeset", but without a change. Any other idea? Hi,
But if I select the Xen-kernel, the system is still not booting, there is only a short flickering on the screen, then the system reboots. is there nobody who has an idea why this problem occurs and how to fix it? I can't believe that this problem exists in the SuSE-kernel since the first updates of 11.3 and still is not fixed in the 11.4 alpha version :-(
I'm quite sure that the problem is the Intel onboard graphic, because I have the same problem on my ThinkPad X60s with Intel onboard graphic, while it works on all other ThinkPads with ATI graphic card. And if I plug a PCI VGA-card in my ThinkCentre M58p, the Xen-kernel also works out of the box without any problems.
