[opensuse-factory] kernel-default-4.4.5-1.1.g09dee88.x86_64: erase failed
Running kernel stable on my system I was surprised that an update did not finish on one of my machines.Hereunder the error text after a whole night work (computer, I got a nice sleep) Downloading the new kernel and installing the latest one stopped at deleting the old kernel at 5% of the deleting process. As I could imagine that deleting the kernel which the system uses could be problematic I rebooted under the 4.4.1 kernel and retried to run the update. Same stopping at 5% progress. This update was done with zypper. The progress result with Yast stopped also at 5%. Before I do something more forceful to replace kernel- default-4.4.5-1.1.g09dee88.x86_64: with kernel- default-4.4.5-1.2.g09dee88.x86_64 I would be glad to get some advise from the list. By the way, the update on a second system went without problems. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ (1/2) Removing kernel-default-4.4.5-1.1.g09dee88.x86_64 ............................................................................................................. In another thread in this list I mentioned to Dominique that for the first time this week using ZYPPER to do an update of the stable kernel did NOT install all the 4 files relating to the kernel. Only kernel-devel-4.4.4-1.1X and kernel-macorsX were installed but kernel-default and kernel-default-devel were NOT installed by zypper. The exact same thing happened AGAIN today re kernel-default -4.4.5-1.2X: zypper found all 4 files but would not installe kernel-default and kernel-default-devel (see: http://susepaste.org/6230309 ). In both cases (with 4.4.4-1 and 4.4.5-1) I had to use YaST2 to have all the 4 files installed. Thanks Basil, I used already Yast but my input did not give me the result I was expecting. I asked yast to remove the older kernel and to install the latest. Result, 5% progress and no end to the installation. This time I just informed Yast to update the 1.1 version with the 1.2. The result an additional removal of xdm and a successful replacement. With zypper there were only two things on the list. Removal and installation. -- Linux User 183145 using Tumbleweed on a Pentium IV System : Linux 4.4.5-1.g09dee88-default Distro : openSUSE 20160307 (x86_64) Desktop: KDE Frameworks: 5.19.0 and Plasma 5.5.5 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
