[opensuse-factory] memtest86+ fubar? from grub -> reboot; from CD/DVD -> OK
(instigated from https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=801561 ) # dmesg | grep e820 http://fm.no-ip.com/Tmp/Hardware/RAM/dmesg-e820-msi85.txt Intel B85 Express motherboard: http://us.msi.com/product/mb/B85-G41-PC-Mate.html#hero-specification Intel G3220 CPU (LGA 1150/socket H3 22nm Pentium dual core 3.0GHz model sr1cg) http://ark.intel.com/products/77773/Intel-Pentium-Processor-G3220-3M-Cache-3... PC3-12800 / DDR3-1600 RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226288 memtest 4.20 works from Grub. 5.01 from Grub triggers instant reboot, no matter where I got 5.01 from (i586 TW, x86_64 TW & Leap, Mageia, Fedora, all reporting 5.01, but significantly varying binary sizes: 150024-190896). 4.20 doesn't recognize or report CPU or RAM configuration correctly, but does test to pass completion, with one error in test #9. 5.01 from http://www.memtest.org/ iso burned to CD works, but I'm not sure correctly. On 4 of 5 passes memtest found error in test #9. Memtest reports RAM running at 667HHz (rather than 800MHz) is CAS 9-9-9-24, while both specs and motherboard setup report RAM is CAS 11-11-11-28. Motherboard reports RAM voltage below 1.35 spec. I have yet to figure out how to raise voltage in motherboard setup. Is it possible to get any memtest newer than 4.20 to start on Haswell other than from removable media boot, or have it report performance near specifications or expectations? Suggestions welcome. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg. Linux User #211409 ** a11y rocks! I tested 5.01 binary downloaded from their web site on Dell E5450 (Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5300U CPU @ 2.30GHz) with 8GB RAM. It loads and runs from grub2 using linux16. The grub2 version was that of Ubuntu 14.04 (just what I had current at hand); it looks relatively recent.
