[opensuse-factory] pulseaudio regression in 11.4
In 11.3 it was unnecessary to suspend pulseaudio for jackd to have access to sound devices, it's back to the old way now, needing. "pasuspender -- /usr/bin/jackd" Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... Jack2 has D-Bus support and cooperates that way with parallel running PA. Seems the SUSE package does not enable this for some reason. Kay -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I missed the beginning of this thread, I think it would be a good idea to cross post matters multimedia to the opensuse-multimedia list, I follow a few upstream lists and scan through factory but if I don't see anything in the subject that is important, I ignore it if I'm busy. You should open a bug and assign it to davejplater@gmail.com. I'm running 11.3 with kfd atm but it looks like the time is near to update to factory. Jack2 has D-Bus support and cooperates that way with parallel running PA.
Seems the SUSE package does not enable this for some reason.

I can build jack (openSUSE jack-1.9.6 is jack2) with both the dbus and classic interfaces and I've tested it with rosegarden and the classic interface, which is the one that most apps use, still works with a small perceived slowdown but I get a warning from the build that it may not work, so I left the classic only interface build. If someone is prepared to test every aspect of a dual interface jack, I will build it with both interfaces for them, in fact in the near future I will enquire upstream about this but atm I have too much on my plate Bear in mind that jack is used by a large percentage of multimedia:apps and a few other apps, even graphics blender which I also maintain and I have to be careful with what I do with it. The other, very time consuming possibility is to create a parallel package with dbus and no classic but possibly the next release will be able to use both interfaces. Thanks Dave, I am willing to test your builds. I use jack quite a bit with one of my main SDR programs. Until now I've been using a version I've built myself in order to have jack_connect and friends. But I have now changed to 1.9.6 in 11.4 Milestone4 which works fine without suspending pulseaudio. The one build I did with dbus didn't work, some problem with /etc/dbus-1/org.jackaudio.service.in, I think it was permissions. # o dbus/org.jackaudio.service.in [D-BUS Service] Name=org.jackaudio.service Exec=@BINDIR@/jackdbus auto Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... Regards Sid. jack-1.9.6-61.3 and upwards in home:plater have both classic and dbus interfaces enabled. Also all of the multimedia packages in the project have built against it and all work (last time I tested them anyway), don't know if it makes a difference but if you find a problem they are

Beware of audacity, it's built against the wxWidgets-unicode package which is wip. Dave P -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

May be my misunderstanding, I thought that any application needing jackd would be happy with jackdbus. I didn't know that appplications needed to be jackdbus aware. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... I tested jack with only dbus and no clasic on rosegarden and got no audio whereas the dual and classic only jack worked. I then asked the developers if rosegarden could use jack dbus and I got this reply "Not to my knowledge." which I interpret as "I'm not even aware of jack dbus". I need to do a bit of research on this and anything that you can come up with will be appreciated. When I configured SVN of jackmp for alsa and dbus, the binary produced was jackdbus. When I tried using jackdbus I got the dbus error message citing /etc/dbus-1/org.jackaudio.service.in Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... This file should have been processed by (probably) configure to create a org.jackaudio.service file, replacing @BINDIR@ with something matching the jackdbus installation path. The resulting file should have been installed in /usr/share/dbus-1/services/ Regards, Stefan -- Stefan Brüns / Bergstraße 21 / 52062 Aachen home: +49 241 53809034 mobile: +49 151 50412019 work: +49 2405 49936-424 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
