I believe you will need to add information about the video hardware you are using, and what drivers :-)
I assume you are using tumbleweed?
I am using the built-in graphics hardware of my Haswell processor (no separate graphics card), and I use Tumbleweed, kept strictly up to date.
Please remember to post to the mail list, not to me in private ;-) I think the command suggested by Felix will give rather more exact information. Then I would suggest you do what Peter Suetterlin and Felix Miata suggested to me the other day, when I had a similar problem: I simply uninstalled xf86-video-intel package and rebooted. Thanks Felix, the idea is his :-) I just had the issue fresh in memory, having had a very similar problem these days after an update. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 42.3 x86_64 "Malachite" at Telcontar)

That kernel is 3 weeks old. Does it work better with that than the current 4.19.7? Next to try after current kernel is 'zypper rm xf86-video-intel'. The Intel driver hasn't had an official release since 3.5 years ago. My Haswell and all other Intel gfx I have that are supported by it are happily using the modesetting driver provided by the X server, both on Leap and TW. If the driver switch doesn't provide a cure, try temporarily disabling Plymouth, by appending plymouth.enable=0 in your Grub menu using the e key. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science. The latest TW snapshot came with 5.12.0. Incomplete update maybe? (e.g. due to conflicts) How exactly did you update? Try to run "zypper dup" (again). Also, your problem somehow sounds like it could be related to compositing. Does it help to disable that maybe? Just press Shift+Alt+F12. I had the same problem with TW, but the intel driver wasn't installed so it couldn't have been that. But disabling compositing fixed it immediately and the system is usable, though without fancy desktop effects in the interim. -- Robin K Wellington "Harbour City" New Zealand -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

You could also try to switch to XRender (instead of OpenGL) in systemsettings5->Display and Monitor->Compositor. That would at least allow *some* effects...
