[opensuse-factory] Ext4 in Opensuse 10.2
They are possible to add as experimental the new ext4 FS to the final release of OSS 10.2? The support for ext4 is added to the kernel 2.6.19-rc1-mm1, but it could'nt mature enpugh. I mean that ext3 is a obsolete FS. just for the logic: ext3 - obsolete ext4 - not mature and not even feature complete. now what to use? xfs? if you want to toy around with ext4 you should be a) kernel developer b) power user, who knows how to compile and debug his kernel if you are neither of those, keep your hands of ext4. darix -- openSUSE - SUSE Linux is my linux openSUSE is good for you www.opensuse.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Are you serious? You really believe ext3 is obsolete? That seems odd, given how widely used it is. Even FAT is not obsolete and it's archaic. Perhaps you mean "obsolescent?" I.e., in the process of becoming obsolete but not yet there. Anyway, could you clarify this statement?

i just quoted the author of the other mail. he stated that ext3 is obsolete, so i wonder what one should use than. darix -- openSUSE - SUSE Linux is my linux openSUSE is good for you www.opensuse.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Sorry. I misunderstood the quoting. I see it is Juan Erbes to whom my comments / questions are directed. Juan?

I believe ext3 is obsolete, because it resembles the old times, when I power on the computer to send a email, and I have only 5 minutes to leave my house, and the system just this day uses 15 minutes for the montly fsck. With Reiserfs I forgot completely this problem, and the system is usable any time I need it. For a desktop computer, I mean that ext3 is not a better option than reiserfs. Ext3 is retro. Then just use reiserfs for your machine. :) Ciao, Marcus --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Since we stay with 2.6.18 with a minimum set of patches: No. Ciao, Marcus --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
