Installed hplip and hplip-hpijs. "rccups restart" OK, "http://localhost:631" shows filter not found, so cannot start the printer. # lpq hpphotosmartc4100series is not ready no entries I shall have a look with YaST later. I.e. HPLIP is not installed (or installed at a wrong place probably after you self-compiled it) which could be the reason for the "filter not found" message. The hpijs driver is one of the filters and when HPLIP is not installed correctly the hpijs driver-filter cannot be found. See http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_in_a_Nutshell#The_Filter In the YaST printer config remove the existing queue to get it 100% cleaned up, then do "Add" and therein select [Add Driver] and let it re-install our original HPLIP from Factory then re-create the print queue. Then provide /var/log/cups/error_log as I wrote in my previous mail. I had done a zypper rm hplip before doing the 1-click install of hplip and hplip-hpijs, both reported successfully installed, yet rpm -qi said they weren't installed, so I had to do a zypper in. provide logs to bugzilla this evening. I started again using zypper to remove hplip and hplip-hpijs, then to install them. What exactly does "http://localhost:631" shows filter not found" mean? Provide the exact full (error)-message or attach a screen shot to https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=498254 Have a look at http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:CUPS_in_a_Nutshell -------------------------------------------------------------------- The Backends ... If the data transmission to the recipient fails (usually after several attempts by the backend), the backend will report an error to the print system (more precisely, to cupsd). The backend decides if and how many attempts make sense before it reports that the data transmission has failed. As further attempts would be futile, cupsd disables printing on the affected queue. After eliminating the cause of the problem, the system administrator must reenable printing with /usr/bin/enable (for CUPS 1.1 - i.e. up to Suse Linux 10.1) or with cupsenable (since CUPS 1.2 - i.e. since openSUSE 10.2). . . . If problems are encountered: 1. Set the "LogLevel debug" in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf. 2. Stop cupsd. 3. Move /var/log/cups/error_log* to another location (or delete it) in order to avoid having to search through gigantic log files. 4. Start cupsd. 5. Retry the action leading to the problem. 6. Now /var/log/cups/error_log* contains many messages that are useful for troubleshooting. -------------------------------------------------------------------- In your case do at item 5. as root: cancel -a hpphotosmartc4100series cupsenable hpphotosmartc4100series echo Hello | lp -d hpphotosmartc4100series Then attach /var/log/cups/error_log to https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=498254 Kind Regards Johannes Meixner -- SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5, 90409 Nuernberg, Germany AG Nuernberg, HRB 16746, GF: Markus Rex -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
