[opensuse-factory] openSUSE Release Engineering Meeting 18.11.2020
All meeting minutes can be found here: https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/ReleaseEngineering-meeting ## Participants lkocman, guillaumeg, dleuenberger, rbrown, maxlin, michel, dirk, wengel, gerald !!! Please be aware that this meeting is hosted on https://meet.opensuse.org/ReleaseEngineeringMeeting ## Leap software-o-o Leap 15.3 setup + media placement. Do we keep the ports tab? Since we no longer have ports (with exception of ARMv7) https://github.com/openSUSE/software-o-o/pull/908 TODO: publishing of 15.3 to download.opensuse.org. What publish script can be used in this case? **Ongoing s390x discussion** Ongoing discussion with Sarah about her involvement. We have a meeting on 25th to confirm information. **ARMv7 topic ** Over 200 responses so far (463 responses in total, however I'd say half will be empty). Initial review of responses is next **SLE 15 SP3 binaries ** hopefully this Friday https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/76219 ## openSUSE Tumbleweed * RPM 4.16 in Staging:A, together with brp-check-suse. Some help to fix the failing packages needed * GNOME 3.38.1 is submitted, Staging:J; openQA test code was updated to cover the changes; expect to merge it this week * we are now on kernel 5.9.8 after a shock on Monday (kernel modules were all failing to load on invalid signatures; turned out to be an OBS bug, not a kernel bug) * DNS on openQA/ariel is back on the GOOGLE ## Richard (Kubic/TW MicroOS) MicroOS is moving to selinux by default (but not Kubic, yet). Please join the selinux@lists.opensuse.org mailinglist for all discussions related to improving SELinux on openSUSE. Investigating removing MicroOS patterns from Tumbleweed media to stop people making horrific unsupportable unworking hybrid installations. Only use MicroOS media to install MicroOS please. Q: Dominique: what about netinstall? A: Richard: netinstall will still have the possibility of doing it, the goal is to reduce the risk, not utterly eliminate it. Dramatically reducing MicroOS/Kubic's Minimum System Requirements from 20GB disk space to 5GB for / (root). Changes on the way in Staging, documentation/announcement for kubic.opensuse.org prepared. Releasing latest bug fixes to Kubernetes 1.18, 1.17 and 1.19. MicroOS tasks being tracked on a public github project tracker - https://github.com/orgs/kubic-project/projects/4 . Everyone should please feel free to leave suggestions or (even better) work on the issues tracked there. ## Max Leap: * Dirty DoD problem still was there * We're missing online repos setup in pontifex, oss, non-oss, debug, update, etc. (lkocman I'll check repos I suppose we have tasks for it) lkocman: will do Backports: * Package links in SP3 Backports should be fixed * Hot-patched several package to fix build error * Aggregated binary from SP2 Backports or Leap 15.2 in order to fix bootstrap problem (just to note that SP3 binaries are expected to be already available early next week, sync will be turned on this Friday) * Many packages unable start to build due to missing pacakge from pool repo * rpmlint-backports-data seems based on standard repo build result rather than pool * Most of build unresolvables are regarding to java, python, HPC or desktop-data/branding :ToTest publishing happens it was just triggered manually by Adrian. We do publish from :ToTest to staging. Publish ftp-prod is blocked on admin@opensuse.org request. Lubos and Max to check on this topic. There is a ticket Adrian re-published Jump manually due to work regarding release- compare/obsgendiff release-compare is on codestreams 12 and 15 but still build issues for codestream 11 For issue with older packages from backports, most of issues will be fixed after 20th Nov. ## Guillaume - Arm Tumbleweed: * PAC/BTI enablement (aarch64 only): No blocker anymore. Let's enable it once current snapshot is built and moved to openQA Leap 15.3 ARM: * armv7 support is still an open question. Let's check the survey results next week. https://survey.opensuse.org/index.php/125963 (See Leap section) openQA: - Since main openQA worker has been upgraded to Leap 15.2, we have performance problems. Improvments have been done, but we are still not performing as good as Leap 15.1 - https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/72079 WSL: WIP to have WSL on aarch64 on https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:Guillaume_G:WSL The goal is to have WSL-DistroLauncher package built for aarch64. On this topic I have an agreement with WSL team to publish a blog post about how to get this working manually via wsl.exe import of aarch64 binary archive from OBS. Fedora recently published something like this, but for x86. ## Michel ppc64le OBS ftp-ftp build failure missing kernel-obs-build, why ? openQA raid test changes to be validated in next snapshot. Lubos requested additional HW resources for openqa, Hector (our Power TPM) is on it. Adrian: there is support for ppc VM in the script, but we need KVM for building images. ## Doug * Revamping landing page in "contribute" section (contribute link on https://www.opensuse.org/) * metric.o.o. 15.2 * Waiting for OBS to trigger SR to openSUSE:Factory. Also need updated package in openSUSE:Leap:15.2:Update and finally upgrade the system. * https://github.com/openSUSE/openSUSE-release-tools/pull/2464 * https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/77782 lubos: just give me a link for Leap, but we'll need a bug reference for maint request richard: why doesn't he trigger the SR to openSUSE:Factory himself? auto-submission isn't preferred anyway as that is always a last resort... * Open Source Firmware Conference * Alias emails for continuity in social media and shop taken care of after migration ## Dirk Submitted various openSUSE Tumblweed build fixes / version updates. Not more time for anything else TODO: Finalize Tier1 Policy and start Tumbleweed Subsection Look at Leap 15.3 "Ports" https://github.com/openSUSE/software-o-o/pull/908 Dirk: the download parts should be the same. ARMv7 is unclear. We'd like to solve it for TW first. Adrian: I'd have problems to separate this. We could have Primary/Secondary like other distributions, it's no longer "porting". Long story short we need to find a unified terminology and use it consistently in Leap and TW. Helping with various failures there and there. ## Gerald || Marina No update, just observing. ## Wolfgang (Package Hub and s390x) We're currently building against SP2:Update. Rpmlint checks are currently broken, so that's something that I'm currently looking into. So we can be ready when SP3 is synced over. ## Ludwig Not present Leap 15.2 MicroOS is temporarily paused. ## Adrian - CtLG No Update * Drop of openSUSE:Jump:15.2 setup to be removed after we have a first successful openSUSE 15.3 build based on SP3. Adrian: we will keep it for a little while until the SP3 setup is finished. Lubos: Can we have some initial 15.3 data synced on download.o.o, so we can test the softaware-o-o links. Adrian: I'll look into it later this week, probably on Friday.
