As an American who lived in the Midwest for half my life, I've known this and found it very funny. While I encountered tumbleweeds a fair bit, I wasn't a farmer. :)
Most people in the central US (especially farmers) would probably find it unpleasant, though.
I saw some of them crossing the road in the middle plain of Spain (the one of Don Quixote) during a wind storm, and for the first time I realized they were dangerous. I had to dodge them with the car. I have not heard much of them since... that was 1985 or so. you mean like changing GIMP because some believe it to describe something undesirable? and after ~30 years with the same name which is actually an acronym completely different than some people interpretation. Tumbleweed is a good and apt name and is not connotative of something undesirable or disagreeable. And I have lived in the mid-west farming area for >80 years and spent time in the west. tumbleweed are just tumbleweeds and provide something different for the landscape. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet oftc

I think that Tumbleweed is an apt name. It just keeps rolling along! The occasional hiccup is to be expected, just as the weed hits an obstacle every once in a while. I still like the name. Larry

Is it Friday yet. of course Tumbleweed is appropriately named. :-) Cameron Seader 208.420.2167 ________________________________________ From: Larry Finger <larry.finger@gmail.com> on behalf of Larry Finger <Larry.Finger@lwfinger.net> Sent: Thursday, January 26, 2023 12:00 PM To: factory@lists.opensuse.org Subject: Re: I really liked the name of our distro until now On 1/26/23 12:28, Patrick Shanahan wrote:

Honestly, me too, still. The major character of our distribution is nicely reflected (tumbling), and being the better dope for our computers is hitting the nail directly. Whoever came up with that name, that was in a genius move! Not sure, if I'm able to get the invasive nature of the name sponsor out of my head again. Especially when there is a terrible invasion going on in its country of origin. Therefore, it reflects the brightest parts, as well as some dark aspects. Just like in real life.. Cheers Pete -- Life without chameleons is possible, but pointless.

Evergreen was the community maintained long term release, led by Wolfgang Rosenauer! Best, Pete -- Life without chameleons is possible, but pointless.
