[opensuse-factory] Leap 42.2: DVD upgrade vs. zypper dup

Hi, Even I've tested to upgrade a minimal 42.1 image to 42.2. I did it twice on a cloned image to compare DVD vs. zypper upgrade. What I found that the DVD upgrade really messed up that system. For example the DVD installs a lot of unwanted packages: before upgrade: 373 packages after zypper dup: 386 packages after DVD upgrade: 856 packages Doesn't the DVD upgrade respect "installRecommends = no"? It installed many packages which I have usually not installed, like *lang, PackageKit*, cups*, yast2*, *snapper* and many others. Furthermore DVD upgrade also changed important settings like * switch from rsyslog to systemd-logger * switch booloader config to SECURE_BOOT="no" * messing up my default/grub: -GRUB_TIMEOUT=4 +GRUB_TIMEOUT=8 -GRUB_TERMINAL="console serial" +GRUB_TERMINAL="serial" -GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=true +GRUB_DISABLE_OS_PROBER=false -SUSE_BTRFS_SNAPSHOT_BOOTING=false +SUSE_BTRFS_SNAPSHOT_BOOTING=true * and much more After DVD upgrade the system seems to look more like a default installation but not as it was before. Is this expected? I think it's really dangerous to use that DVD upgrade. The wiki still recommends DVD: https://en.opensuse.org/Upgrade "Other possibility: Offline upgrade, a.k.a. traditional or DVD upgrade. For more information, read offline upgrade. This upgrade method is safer and more versatile. Unless you have a good reason to do otherwise, use the offline upgrade method." This seems wrong. Should I bug report this issue or is all this expected/wanted? cu, Rudi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I'm not sure I know where that switch is. The prominent one is based on patterns, or only installed packages.
Should not upgrade respect current zypp.conf of system being upgraded?
The DVD uses its own settings. After doing it you have to review the list of changed configs and undo or not. They get renamed to whatever.rpmnew or whatever.rpmorig. I use meld to compare the in use config with the other, and decide, change per change. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)
