[opensuse-factory] status: distribution
Hi, I have builds for Milestone7, but I'm facing a heavy dillema: Somehow the base system became unstable without any chances to it that I'm aware of, see e.g. bugzilla.novell.com/537366 And there isn't really much time left to debug this for real as we need to have it on the mirrors before the power loss. But releasing it in this state won't get us many friends. I'm pretty sure it's one or two root causes, the problem is to find them ;( http://download.opensuse.org/factory/iso/ has new ISOs and the factory repo has M7, perhaps more people looking into the problem help. On the good news: The number of build failures is really down to something that would have been acceptable weeks ago ;) Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Well, I do have a problem that I had failed to check. Mounting of usb devices does *not* work and appears to be kernel specific, kernel-default-2.6.31-5.2.x86_64 kernel-default-2.6.31-6.1.x86_64 both have this problem, kernel-default-2.6.31-4.2.x86_64 does not. What do you mean with 'USB devices'? An external harddrive, or an usb-stick? Over here usb-stick and usb-cardreader work. -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (M9.) (Now or never...) Don't have an external "usb" hard-drive, but it sees my card-reader, but not the card and does not see a flash-drive stick. the 4.2 kernel does work, the 5.2 and 6.1 do not, for me, x86_64. -- Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://counter.li.org -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Yes, it was an upstream inotify bug that was resolved in the 2.6.31-rc9 release upstream. thanks, greg k-h -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

For me the problem went away with 2 reboots :-) I installed it with 'zypper dup' and on the second boot (and most likely also the first, I just did not see it) it was printed, that my filesystem is broken, needs fsck, / is only mounted read only. Strangely I did not get a # prompt to fix it, but the machine booted further, as there was no problem. When I rebooted again, this time to single user, to fix the problems, the filesystem was already all right, and booted without any hald or other problems to runlevel 5. Indeed.
