[opensuse-factory] reiserfs
Hello, Sorry for posting here, but I still can't reach bugzilla (seems to me a routing problem, I could not reach it from any Hungarian address I tried, but others reported, that it works...) I ran into a strange problem with beta3 on Pegasos PPC: installation hangs just before or after formatting partitions. The problem seems to be something with the kernel. The installer tries to mount readonly all the partitions on the machine. One of them is reiserfs, which works perfectly with openSUSE 10.[012], and reiserfsck finds nothing wrong with it. But mounting it from the installer fails with the following kernel message: VFS: Can't find ext3 filesystem on dev sda5. REISERFS (device sdb2): found reiserfs format "3.6" with standard journal REISERFS (device sdb2): using ordered data mode reiserfs: using flush barriers REISERFS (device sdb2): journal params: device sdb2, size 8192, journal first block 18, max trans len 1024, max batch 900, max commit age 30, max trans age 30 REISERFS (device sdb2): checking transaction log (sdb2) Unable to handle kernel paging request for data at address 0x00000150 Faulting instruction address: 0xc00f8bd0 Oops: Kernel access of bad area, sig: 11 [#1] CHRP Modules linked in: dm_snapshot dm_mod multipath raid456 xor raid1 raid0 squashfs xfs via_rhine sbp2 ohci1394 ieee1394 usb_storage uhci_hcd ehci_hcd pata_via libata arc4 ecb blkcipher loop nfs nfs_acl lockd sunrpc sg st sd_mod sr_mod scsi_mod ide_cd cdrom NIP: c00f8bd0 LR: c00f8bd0 CTR: 00000000 REGS: dc9d7950 TRAP: 0300 Tainted: G N (2.6.22.5-10-default) MSR: 00009032 <EE,ME,IR,DR> CR: 28042428 XER: 00000000 DAR: 00000150, DSISR: 40000000 TASK = eff8d320[4292] 'mount' THREAD: dc9d6000 GPR00: c00f8bd0 dc9d7a00 eff8d320 00000031 ffffffff 00000000 00000001 0000000a GPR08: fffffffc c04def83 00000000 00000001 22042488 1002a44c c032f858 dc9d7b80 GPR16: dc9d7b7c c03c4ee4 c032f868 c032f848 c03c4edc 00000000 00000000 00000002 GPR24: 00000000 dc9d7b58 00000000 e27fa400 dc9d7b38 c032f878 c03c74b0 00000000 NIP [c00f8bd0] __reiserfs_error+0x58/0x128 LR [c00f8bd0] __reiserfs_error+0x58/0x128 Call Trace: [dc9d7a00] [c00f8bd0] __reiserfs_error+0x58/0x128 (unreliable) [dc9d7a40] [c00fff34] search_by_key+0xbc8/0x1c5c [dc9d7b30] [c00e7850] reiserfs_read_locked_inode+0x78/0x7b8 [dc9d7bc0] [c00f60b8] reiserfs_fill_super+0x4a0/0xd80 [dc9d7ce0] [c008e3d4] get_sb_bdev+0x138/0x194 [dc9d7d30] [c00f344c] get_super_block+0x1c/0x2c [dc9d7d40] [c008e0fc] vfs_kern_mount+0xa4/0x140 [dc9d7d70] [c008e1e8] do_kern_mount+0x40/0xf4 [dc9d7d90] [c00a61cc] do_mount+0x618/0x674 [dc9d7f10] [c00a6a80] sys_mount+0x90/0xd8 [dc9d7f40] [c0012838] ret_from_syscall+0x0/0x40 --- Exception: c01 at 0xff3b054 LR = 0x10002be8 Instruction dump: 98010009 7cc33378 38010048 7d645b78 91210020 7cbd2b78 9001000c 90e10018 9101001c 91410024 91610010 4bffe371 <813f0150> 8009001c 74090008 41a20020 VFS: Can't find ext3 filesystem on dev sdb3. It either just hangs, or I get a message, that the partition I created can't be mounted, or something similar. I also have some /var/log/YaST2 snapshots from three different installations (trying to use ext3, reiserfs and xfs), but I spare those for bugzilla, once I can reach it... I've asked our PPC guys (using Apple and IBM hardware, no Pegasos) whether they could reproduce this but they could not, Andreas -- Andreas Jaeger, Director Platform/openSUSE, aj@suse.de SUSE LINUX Products GmbH, GF: Markus Rex, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GPG fingerprint = 93A3 365E CE47 B889 DF7F FED1 389A 563C C272 A126

I reproduced it a couple of times, so I added to bugzilla: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=308532 When I took out the HDD containing the problematic reiserfs partition, this problem was gone, but I ran into another problem, so I still can't install on that machine...
