[opensuse-factory] Beta2: bootloader talks to you (please test)
Hi, as of beta2, the graphical bootloader (the one on the install media) supports speech output via pc-speaker. That is, it reads all menu items to you. This feature is mainly there to aid visual impaired people. It's still experimental and I'd like to get your feedback whether it works or not on your machine. To try it, simply press F9. (In the worst case, your machine will freeze at this point.) Please report positive (if any) and negative results. Thanks, Steffen --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Very cool feature! :-) Tried on two different machines. On both you can hardly understand it since it's to quiet. Is it possible to increase the PC speaker volume? Technically, yes. The volume is currently set to 70%. There's just no key assigned to change it. Thanks for testing! Steffen, Thanks for this feature! I have several a11y users wanting to test this. Do you know if this feature is available on all installer media? Yes, on all media. But I forgot that Live-CDs have different menu texts, so it doesn't work that well there (I'll fix this in beta3). But for testing beta2 should be ok. I tried the after Beta3 LiveCD KDE4 and it works with LiveCD menu. I spotted two issues. First: Video mode 1200x800 (on my laptop) is not read. I haven't tested this with the latest LiveCD. maybe it's fixed now. The second is worse: I move with arrows chosing language and it froze my computer. BNC 392016. Yes, intentionally. The low resolution is better for braille displays. Steffen --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
