Strange crashes after snapshot 20240514

Hello, the problems with snapshot 20240514 are increasing: At first only Firefox crashed (when opening a special website showing some graphics). Now I found that I can't open PDF files from Dolphin anymore, as Okular crashes with a core dump. The same happens when starting Okular from system menu. Starting Okular from command line works, though. When I tried to write this reply also Thunderbird crashed with a core dump. When I tried do write this reply the second time Thunderbird crashed when I tried to send it., So this is my third try... I also found several core dump messages for kioworker in /var/log/warn.Except for the Firefox crashes I noticed that all crash messages in /var/log/war mention radeonsi_dri.so. Meanwhile I can't start Kate or Konsole anymore, they also crash. I also noticed that after logging off and on again the problems disappear. Okular can be started from Dolphin, Konsole starts, Kate starts. I will check if the problems re-appear when I leave this session open for some time. But I guess I have to go back to snapshot 20240512 as I can't live with all these crashes. I think it's time for a bug report now. But for what package? I have similar sporadic issues, also with firefox (in specific sites) but also with core KDE software, like system settings or network manager settings. Rebooting solve the issues which appear after some time.

I'm back at Kernel 6.8.8, but I wasn't able to go back to yesterdays configuration, as snapper already deleted those snapshots :-(. So I'm now at snapshot 20240516, but without all kernel updates (kernel 6.8.9 and kernel-firmware updates). "kernel-*" is currently locked in zypper. Good news is that everything seems ok at the moment, I can also open the website causing problems with kernel 6.8.9, so I guess I should file a bug report for kernel 6.8.9. -- PGP Public Key available at https://pgp.mit.edu/ Key fingerprint = 3264 280C 05B1 572F 3F0B 42B8 1E7B 2D9D 063B D507

Yeah I have to agree that I'm experiencing something like this since the last days also. Radeon 6800 XT, Ryzen 5900X. Den lör 18 maj 2024 kl 14:25 skrev Oliver Schwabedissen < oliver@schwabedissen.name>:

Have you all checked if Resizable Bar is enabled in your BIOS? I just upgraded my motherboard BIOS and enabled resizable bar and my issues with kernel 6.8.9 causing a game I played to constantly crash on startup were resolved. It was definitely kernel related since I had a 6.8.8 snapshot to fall back on to compare. Radeon 6800 XT, Ryzen 5 3600.

Hello, "Resize BAR" was disabled on my system. To fully enable it I had to disable CSM (Compatibility Support Module). Anyway, no problems so far, but I will skip kernel 6.8.9 and wait for 6.9.x. Regards, Oliver Am 20.05.24 um 10:39 schrieb email@chanjp.me:
