[opensuse-factory] 13.2 networking problems during installation
Tried openSUSE-Factory-DVD-x86_64-Snapshot20140816-Media.iso on a laptop and tried to set up wireless connection during installation. This has never worked for me before but I live in hope. The problem this time is that after I've set up all the parameters and I try to complete the configuration I get told that three modules need to be installed: iw ifplugd wpa_supplicant I say "OK" but I then get a message to say that they cannot be found and the installation has to be aborted. I wondered whether it was just that they weren't on the disk so I tried connecting via ethernet. This doesn't work either because I have to set that up and am told a single module is needed (forget which one) which, of course, cannot be found so back to aborting setup again. Is this problem anything to do with switch from "ifup" to "wicked" and the above modules are not really needed? The reason I think that is the case is that those modules aren't asked for when I configure the network devices after installation is completed. -- Graham Davis, Bracknell, Berks. openSUSE 13.1 (64-bit); KDE 4.13.3; AMD Phenom II X2 550 Processor; Kernel: 3.11.10; Video: nVidia GeForce 210 (using nVidia driver); Sound: ATI SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA); Wireless: BCM4306 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Yes, they are there but if I can't connect to that site because I don't have those modules . . . ? Catch-22, I think. In any case, as I said, I don't seem to need them once I've installed the system having skipped the network setup. -- Graham Davis, Bracknell, Berks. openSUSE 13.1 (64-bit); KDE 4.13.3; AMD Phenom II X2 550 Processor; Kernel: 3.11.10; Video: nVidia GeForce 210 (using nVidia driver); Sound: ATI SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA); Wireless: BCM4306 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I believe this is bug 888805. I guess it has not been fixed yet. In any case, you can click "Cancel" on that screen and continue the installation without configuring wireless. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Thanks, I've added a comment to that bug. It's marked as a duplicate of another report but I'm not allowed to access that one.

Yes, it's possible to say "no" to the network configuration and avoid the problem but, once you're in it and it fails to find the modules you have to restart installation from scratch. -- Graham Davis, Bracknell, Berks. openSUSE 13.1 (64-bit); KDE 4.13.3; AMD Phenom II X2 550 Processor; Kernel: 3.11.10; Video: nVidia GeForce 210 (using nVidia driver); Sound: ATI SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA); Wireless: BCM4306 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
