[opensuse-factory] Add VBoxGuestAdditions.iso to non-free
Hi I got a request (bnc#525570) to add VirtualBox Additions iso to our distro, but it is not OSI compatible, Could someone tell me, who is approved to decide whether or not to include package to non-free ? is it openSUSE board ? thanks -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

No, the board explicitly doesn't do any technical decisions and this is one. But indeed, for nonfree software the limits are much higher - because the licenses are usually much uglier :) What I wonder: what is the advantage of having an .iso in the distribution that can be downloaded 1:1 from other sources? Because we should not assume every body has a fast & flat rate internet acces, which is not true. Consider an scenario without internet acces. In this case, the only way to complete a VBox setup is providing that iso. In this case the non free Virtualbox with usb support may as well be included in non-oss as it installs the addon iso anyway. Regards Dave P -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

If I understand right : non-free repo is available only through the web and it's not included on openSUSE DVDs ? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Right, the non-oss addon is an extra download Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

It is also on the Boxes you can buy But why do we need a complete .iso? You only need either the x68 or 86-64 prog. Can't this be realized anyway? Daniel

I don't see the point, the ISO is provided with VirtualBox, if the distribution provides it, the install procedure would be as annoying as it's today. On the other hand, adding the modules as KMP packages would be nice (given their license allow repackaging).
