New Geeko animation for Blender
Hi, after i nailed my son Linus(!) to create a new geeko animation for blender, he finally delivered. Here's the render result (on yt, because paste.o.o is too forgetful to deal with mp4 videos..): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iigtsYYpKRk How do you like it? I plan to replace the Blender example file with this blend file, if you do not raise objections. Cheers, Pete
Hello, I think using the Windows logo might be an issue about trade mark. Also there something weird about the hind leg when it move. Any way, I think there is no meed to replace the old file can it just be put together? Kind regards, Andy

I like it. Nicely done. Carsten -- Personally, I think my choice in the mostest-superlative-computer wars has to be the HP-48 series of calculators. They'll run almost anything. And if they can't, while I'll just plug a Linux box into the serial port and load up the HP-48 VT-100 emulator. -- Jeff Dege, jdege@winternet.com
Love it... But the windows logo might be trouble, copyright being what it is.... Am 9. Januar 2021 19:07:39 MEZ schrieb Hans-Peter Jansen <hpj@urpla.net>:

Awesome, congrats! Maybe i can ask if someone can make tumbleweed logo moving like and infinite loop and share it (gif format) It will be very nice to see it in Pinephone boot animation, to make user choose between different options. Adrian On 9/1/21 19:52, Mathias Homann wrote:

Hi Adrian, A moving Tumbleweed logo would be a great boot logo for the pinephone! Hi Adrian,
A moving Tumbleweed logo would be a great boot logo for the pinephone!
Last time we did an animation for boot logo it died pretty fast due to size (you need quite a few images) and scalability (you need the second version at least, although I would take a vector version anytime, if plymouth supported it). LCP [Stasiek] https://lcp.world
Hi, In pinephone we do not use plymouth we have patches to kernel for animation, we are using https://github.com/philmmanjaro/linux-bootsplash I had made current boot animation with from a gif image and transforming to correct format, i am not sure, but i think we shouldn't have problems with scalability. I still mourn this didn't end up in the kernel, but I also wonder how long can you keep using it before it inevitably breaks. It's also a shame it doesn't utilize the UEFI provided manufacturer images, but that's probably not too hard to patch in I would assume.

Well, it depends on what you want to support. With plymouth we are aiming for every computer screen, which doesn't always work (especially since we really only provide the logo size for 1080p, so it's really small on let's say 4K, but I didn't really look into it yet). With that being said, some time ago I went out and started working on getting all of the DMs synced up with the plymouth theme to have the same format of bottom aligned distribution logo. Technically now SDDM also supports that (thanks to Jan), but we don't customize it according to: https://build.opensuse.org/package/view_file/KDE:Frameworks5/plasma5-openSUS... (and /usr/share/pixmaps/distribution-logos/light-inline.svg would work just fine for the logo there, I will patch that later whenever I remember about it). I also didn't really have the time to make it work on LightDM, so that's still up in the air. LCP [Stasiek] https://lcp.world

Is it not possible to use vector images that scale with the screen resolutions?

Plymouth doesn't have that functionality afaik LCP [Stasiek] https://lcp.world

Thanks for your feedback, guys'n'gals. Meanwhile, a new version with a less confusable icon is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2r_XtGNwVbE The current render results are available here: https://urpla.net/geeko%20but%20better.mp4 https://urpla.net/geeko%20but%20better%204K.mp4 It is looping correctly, of course. The post on r/ is going through the roof right now: https://www.reddit.com/r/openSUSE/comments/kv19ha/geeko_v2/? utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 Fun. Cheers, Pete
